MPSF RELEASE
DENTON, Texas (April 12, 2023) – The Texas Woman's artistic swimming team experienced success in the pool and in the classroom during the 2023 season.
Following the conclusion of the season, five Pioneers were named to the 2023 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation All-Academic Team –
Maribella Falconer,
Anaya Kashikar,
Laura Klein Paredes,
Ashley Latchford and
Regina Ramirez.
According to the MPSF, individuals must meet the following criteria to receive the award. The student-athlete must have a 3.00 or better cumulative grade point average, must be a sophomore academically, must have completed at least one full academic year at the institution and must have competed in at least 50% of the institution's competitions.
Falconer, a sophomore from Houston, Texas, competes in A technical, duet, trio and team. A kinesiology major, Falconer currently boasts a 4.00 cumulative GPA.
A sophomore from Austin, Texas, Kashikar competes in A technical, trio and team, while maintaining a 3.950 GPA as a kinesiology major.
Klein Paredes, a sophomore from Sant Pol de Mar, Spain, currently studies art and holds a 4.00 GPA. She swims in A technical, trio and team for the Pioneers.
Sophomore Ashley Latchord, from Buffalo, New York, competes in A technical, trio, solo and team. She currently majors in kinesiology and holds a 4.00 GPA.
A sophomore from Mexico City, Mexico,
Regina Ramirez is majoring in psychology and boasts a 4.00 GPA. She swims B technical, duet and team for the Pioneers.
Being the first year of eligibility as sophomore status, this marks the first All-Academic honor for these five Pioneers.
"I am so proud of these athletes for being named to the 2023 MPSF All-Academic Team," TWU Head Coach Sara Lilly said. "Their ability to maintain high standards in the classroom while striving for excellence in the pool is impressive. They are very deserving of being named to this team."
