VOLLEYBALL GOES ON THE ROAD FOR LSC CROSSOVER

LUBBOCK, Texas (Sept. 13, 2023) – The Texas Woman's volleyball team gets their first look at Lone Star Conference competition in a nonconference crossover weekend against three LSC opponents.

TWU (5-3) travels to Lubbock Christian for the LSC Crossover Sept. 13-16. They start the weekend off by facing Oklahoma Christian on Thursday, Sep. 13 at 3 p.m.

OC (6-2) opened their season at the Westminster Invitational, same as the Pioneers. Then, they traveled to Lubbock, Texas to play in the Chap Classic, where they went undefeated at the classic.

TWU will look to start off the Crossover with a victory on Thursday afternoon.

MAROON MANIA 
  • TWU HIGHLIGHTS: The Pioneers are coming off a 3-1 weekend at the Denton Volleyfest. Following the weekend, freshman middle blocker Kady Hansen was named the LSC Defensive Player of the Week. Hansen led the Pioneers in defense with 17 total blocks, 13 blocks assists and four solo blocks. She averaged one block per set on the weekend. Hansen also helped hold the Pioneers' opponents to hitting just .217 on the weekend. Hansen also topped the Pioneer leaderboard on offense across their four matches. On the weekend, she recorded 43 kills with an efficient hitting percentage of .313. Across the 17 sets of play, Hansen averaged 2.53 kills per set. She currently ranks third in the LSC in hitting percentage on the season and 45th overall in Division II. Along with Hansen, sophomore setter Kiana Reed will also be key this weekend. Reed led the Pioneers to a .265 hitting percentage on the weekend and led the Pioneers with 86 overall assists. She has led the Pioneers to a Top 30 position in Division II in total kills and hitting efficiency. She also topped the Pioneer leaderboard with aces, having seven on the weekend. The dop defender for the Pioneers, Luna França, has 125 digs on the season with a reception percentage of .918.
  • EAGLES FLIGHT PATH: OC enters this weekend on a six game win streak after losing the first two matches of their season to Nebraska Kearney and Saint Martin's at the Westminster Invitational. At the Chap Classic, they swept Southern Arkansas, Minot State and Arkansas Tech, before winning in four sets against Southern Arkansas on Sept. 9 to close the classic. On the season, the Eagles are led by graduate student Giorgia Turri with 105 kills on the season, 19 aces and 82 digs. Junior Lauren McClure tops the leaderboard in assists for OC with 161. Sophomore Megan Reck leads the Eagles with 34 total blocks.
  • A LOOK AT HISTORY: The Pioneers and the Eagles have only met twice, as the Eagles just reestablished their volleyball program during the 2020-21 season. TWU is 1-1 against OC, losing on the road and then defeating the Eagles in Denton, Texas in 2022. Most recently, the Pioneers defeated OC in four sets, hitting .305 with 63 kills in the match. Tori Woods led the Pioneers in the match with 16 kills and two aces.
