DENTON, Texas (Sept. 27, 2023) - For the third week in a row, the Pioneers have had at least one player starring in the Lone Star Conference Players of the Week. Rylee Avery was named the LSC Defensive Player of the Week.
"We are excited for Rylee and the recognition that she received from the conference this week," TWU Head Coach Babak Abouzar said. "She has been a mainstay in our back line and continues to grow each game."
Avery started both of last week's games against Midwestern State and St. Edward's and played all 180 minutes. Not only that, she has also started all eight games this season for the Pioneers.
The freshman has demonstrated to be a fundamental piece of TWU's exceptional defensive back line. Avery led the team that allowed just one goal over two LSC games, and only two goals in eight games this season. Texas Woman's is one of only two LSC teams that has allowed just two goals against this season.
During the shutout game against St. Edward's on Saturday afternoon, Avery added an assist that put the team 2-0 and sealed the deal for the Pioneers. This marks Avery's second assist of the season. The win over SEU was also the Pioneer's conference-leading fifth shutout match.
