ODESSA, Texas (Oct. 10, 2024) – The Texas Woman's volleyball team recorded their third straight win, defeating UT Permian Basin on Thursday night in four sets.
TWU (10-5, 3-2) beat UTPB (9-5, 2-3) on the road in Odessa, Texas for the first time since 2017.
The Pioneers move to double digit wins on the season with 10 and improve to 3-2 in the Lone Star Conference.
IMPACT PLAYERS
- Four Pioneers finished with double-digit kills. Kady Hansen and Malia Viernes both led the way with 11, and Cara Pool and Tori Woods both added 10 kills.
- Woods recorded her eighth double-double of the season with her 10 kills and 10 digs.
- Luna França led the way with 27 digs.
- Grace Reynolds topped the leader board in assists with 27, and Kiana Reed added 14.
- Hansen closed the match with a career-high two aces in the win.
- Myracle Stockman led the way for TWU with three block assists. Pool and Hansen both added two solo blocks.
- Stockman, who finished with nine kills, hit a team high .400 on the night.
PIONEER POWER MOMENTS
- The Pioneers held the Falcons to their lowest hitting percentage of the season, as UTPB hit .109 on the night. In the fourth set, the Falcons hit -0.1. TWU finished the night hitting .235.
- TWU finished with four aces and nine blocks.
- In the first set, TWU tied it up at 16, but UTPB scored four unanswered points to go ahead, 20-16. The Falcons would close out set one 25-20.
- Set two showcased back-and-forth action for most of the set. Nevertheless, TWU stayed locked in. Three straight attack errors by the Falcons, including one block by Stockman and Hansen, put TWU ahead by two, 24-22.
- A kill by Stockman from Kiana Reed would close set two in favor of the Pioneers, 25-23, and tie the match at one set each.
- The Pioneers came out with high energy in set three. They scored six straight points to start the set, forcing UTPB to call a timeout with TWU ahead, 6-0.
- After their big run to start the match, the Pioneers maintained their lead throughout the entirety of the set.
- Back-to-back kills by Stockman from Kiana Reed ended set three for TWU, 25-15, setting TWU up 2-1 in the match.
- UTPB opened set four with a 6-2 run. After some back-and-forth action, an ace by Kiana Reed and an attack error UTPB gave TWU the lead, 12-9.
- The Pioneers would end the set on a 10-3 run, as they kept the momentum high throughout the entire set. During the run, TWU scored six unanswered points to take the 21-12 advantage.
- A kill by Pool would set up match point, 24-14. Then, a kill by Woods would end the match, 25-15.

TWU will stay on the road for their next match. The Pioneers will face Western New Mexico in Silver City, N.M. on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 3 p.m. CST.
