SILVER CITY, N.M. (OCT. 12, 2024) – The Texas Woman's volleyball team continued their winning streak on Saturday.
TWU (11-5, 4-2) defeated Western New Mexico (6-12, 2-4) in three straight sets to record their fourth sweep of the season and fourth straight win.
The Pioneers have won the last seven matches, dating back to 2018, against WNMU all seven wins have been sweeps.
After their win today, TWU is currently tied for fifth in the LSC with St. Mary's.
IMPACT PLAYERS
- Grace Reynolds finished the match with 24 assists and 12 digs to record her ninth double-double of the season.
- Cara Pool led the Pioneers with a season high 12 kills.
- Kady Hansen and Malia Viernes both added nine kills in the win. Hansen hit a team high .563 on the afternoon.
- Payton Sandefer entered the game and recorded her first career kill and also added a career high three digs.
- Luna França led TWU in digs with 22, marking her sixth match of the season with 20 or more digs. França also finished with the Pioneers' lone ace of the day.
- Pool and Hansen led the protection of the net for TWU – both finished with two solo blocks.
- Trinity Blackwood recorded her first career solo block for the Pioneers in the match.
PIONEER POWER MOMENTS
- TWU hit .273 on the day and held WNMU to hitting just .101 – their third lowest hitting percentage of the season. In the third set, they held the Mustangs to hitting -.114.
- The Pioneers only allowed the Mustangs to score nine points in the third set, which matched the lowest number of points by an opponent in a set against the Pioneers.
- TWU finished the match with six blocks to the Mustangs' three, and the Pioneers outscored WNMU 54-37 in the match.
- The first set started out in a back-and-forth flow. A kill from Marina Obradovic gave TWU its largest lead of the set up to that point at four, 15-11.
- Three errors by the Mustangs then extended the lead for TWU, 18-13.
- After the Mustangs came within three late, 23-20, a kill by Hansen from Reynolds would set up set point. WNMU would score one more point, but the Pioneers ended the set right after off another Hansen kill, 25-21.
- In the second set, a kill by Tori Woods ignited an early 4-1 run to open the set for TWU.
- WNMU came within one, 5-4, but the Pioneers quickly scored five unanswered points to take the 10-4 advantage.
- After leading 18-10, WNMU scored five straight points to come within three, 18-15, but TWU answered with three quick points to maintain the lead, 21-15.
- Following a 6-1 run by WNMU, TWU would have their first set point situation after an attack error by WNMU, 24-21. Nevertheless, the Mustangs scored three straight points to tie the set at 24.
- A kill by Pool from Kiana Reed would bring up set point again, 25-24. WNMU would tie it one more time at 25; however, a kill from Sandefer and a kill from Pool would end the set, 27-25, and give TWU the 2-0 match lead.
- The Pioneers opened the third set with high energy, as they quickly mounted a 12-2 run. TWU would keep the momentum in the third set and complete the sweep, winning set three, 25-9.

The Pioneers are back at home in Kitty Magee next week. They will meet St. Mary's on Friday, Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. On Friday, the Pioneers will be honoring Breast Cancer Awareness with their annual Dig Pink Game.
