DENTON, Texas (Oct. 18, 2024) – The Texas Woman's Wrestling team is set to start their third year of the program, as they add depth to their 2024-2025 roster.
The Pioneers officially welcome nine new additions this season, as they continue to build up the program every year and improve every step of the way for National Qualifiers. TWU will compete in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and host the 2025 Women's Wrestling Region VIII Championships for the second time in program history.
"I'm excited to have a group of upperclassmen to mentor our incoming class and the current class that is here is progressing quickly in a new style of wrestling," TWU Wrestling Head Coach Randi Miller said." I am excited to see how the postseason will go."
Houston, Texas native, Adriana Mauldin joins the Pioneers with two years of wrestling experience and attended Cypress Falls High School. Mauldin graduated Cum Laude and majors in nutrition at TWU.
First-year wrestler Cora Yvette Carr joins TWU Wrestling after attending Krum High School. Carr is a multisport athlete who competed in track and field for six years, cross country for six, and wrestling for three years before joining the Pioneers. The freshman attended C.F. Brewer High School last Fall and served as an assistant basketball coach for the AAU basketball team Crush in Fort Worth, Texas.
Gigi Donald joined the Pioneers from Meridian, Miss., and attended Hillcrest High School. She has competed in Wrestling for five years and basketball for one year. Donald was named to the All-Region and All-State teams, and was an Academic All-American. She majors in Mathematics at TWU.
Transfer Sophomore from Dumas, Texas, Emily Loya brings four years of Wrestling experience to the Pioneers. Loya attended Oklahoma City University before deciding to attend TWU and was a three year state placer, three time district champion, and two time regional champion at Dumas High School. Before her high school and college career, Loya played club for five years. She is majoring in Political Science here at TWU.
Paulina Heimuli joins the Pioneers from Euless, Texas. She started her wrestling journey last year in the Fall at Euless Trinity High School. In her one year tenure at Euless, Heimuli was a State Dual and District Champion, Freestyle State Champion, and Greco State Champion. Off the mat, Heimuli does jiu-jitsu and is a musician and artist. She is a Pacific Islander of Tongan descent and a first-generation student. Heimuli currently majors in Music Therapy at TWU.
Alyssa Rogers, from Marana, Ariz., and Samuel Clemens High School, has competed in wrestling for three years. Rogers was a District Champion last Fall and was involved with Legacy Leaders in her community. She plans to be an entrepreneur with her artwork and is majoring in Studio Art.
Dallas, Texas native, Monze Martinez joins the Pioneers with one year of wrestling experience and attended Hillcrest High School. She also played volleyball for three years and majors in marketing at TWU.
Anna Smith joins TWU Wrestling after attending Reedy High School in Frisco, Texas where she went to Regionals in her last two years. Smith competed in wrestling for two years before joining the Pioneers. She is majoring in Nursing at TWU.
Katelyn Vasquez joined the Pioneers from Rosenberg, Texas, and attended Ben Franklin Terry High School. She has competed in Wrestling for three years and volleyball for two years. She majors in Biology at TWU.
The Pioneers will kick off their 2024-25 season next Friday, Oct.25 in KMA with an intersquad match to showcase what the team will bring this upcoming season.
TWU's first official competition day will be on Saturday, Nov. 2., at the Maverick Open in Grand Junction, Colo.
