DENTON, Texas (Oct. 19, 2024) – Sweet six – the Texas Woman's volleyball team extended their win streak on Saturday.
TWU (13-5, 6-2) recorded their sixth straight win and their sixth win in LSC play, defeating St. Edward's (9-10, 1-7) in KMA.
The Pioneers fell in the first set, before responding and winning the next three to secure the victory.
With their sixth win in LSC play, TWU holds steady in fourth place in the conference – currently tied with Dallas Baptist.
IMPACT PLAYERS
- Three Pioneers finished the match with double-digit kills. Tori Woods led the Pioneers with 19 kills, Cara Pool finished with 12 kills and Malia Viernes also added 12 kills in the win.
- To her stat line, Woods added two aces, two block assists and 14 digs. She recorded her 10th double-double of the season.
- Viernes finished the night with one solo block and one block assist. She also recorded 14 digs to post her seventh double-double of the season.
- Grace Reynolds dished out the most assists for the Pioneers, finishing the match with 29 assists. She also added one ace, one block assist and 14 digs. It marked her 11th double-double of the season.
- Luna França topped the TWU leader board with 27 digs. She also matched her career high in aces with two on the day.
- Pool had the highest hitting percentage for TWU on the match, finishing with a .526 hitting percentage – a season high for Pool.
PIONEER POWER MOMENTS
- The Pioneers finished with their second most digs in a match this season – 89.
- TWU recorded their second most block assists in a match this season, 16, and second most total blocks with 12.
- Once again, TWU displayed a strong defensive performance, holding SEU to hitting just .092 on the match – their second lowest of the season.
- The Pioneers hit .277 on the day with 57 kills and 55 assists.
- SEU controlled much of the first, but the two teams traded points for the final eight points of the match.
- TWU came within one point, 24-23, off a kill by Woods. Nevertheless, a kill by the Hilltoppers ended the set in SEU's favor.
- After a slow start in set one, the Pioneers righted the ship and opened set two with three straight points.
- Then, TWU mounted a 6-0 run, which was started by a Hilltopper's service error, led to the Pioneers jumping out to a decisive, 18-8 lead.
- After two quick points by SEU, Jessica Freehill hit two back-to-back kills to ignite a 5-0 run and put TWU ahead by 13, 23-10.
- An attack error by SEU would bring up set point for the Pioneers, and a kill by Viernes would end the set in TWU's favor, 25-13.
- Long runs were the story of set three as well. Late in the set, TWU mounted their longest run of the set, scoring six unanswered points to take a nine-point lead, 19-10. A kill by Myracle Stockman ignited the run.
- Back-to-back kills by Woods brought up set point for TWU, and a kill by Kenn Jean-Louis closed the set for the Pioneers, 25-15.
- TWU took the momentum into set four, as they opened the set with eight straight points. The run included five kills from Woods.
- After taking an 8-0 lead, the Pioneers kept their foot on the gas.
- A kill by Stockman would increase the lead for TWU, 23-14. SEU would score three straight, but the Pioneers would reorient to close the set and the match. A kill by Stockman from Haley Mullaney, who finished with a season high four assists, would bring up match point. An attack error by the Hilltoppers would close the match for TWU, 25-17.

The Pioneers go on the road next week for their next slate of LSC matches. They will meet Oklahoma Christian on Friday, Oct. 25 at 6 p.m. Then, they will face Cameron on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 2 p.m.
