EDMOND, Okla. (Oct. 25, 2024) – The Texas Woman's volleyball team recorded their seventh straight win on Friday night in a five-set thriller over Oklahoma Christian.
TWU (14-5, 7-2) claimed the first two sets against OC (14-8, 4-5) on the road. After dropping the next two sets, the Pioneers battled back in set five to claim their seventh consecutive win and seventh win in Lone Star Conference action.
The 7-2 start to LSC action marks the best start to conference play for the Pioneers since 2015.
Tonight's five-set match marked TWU's sixth five-set match of the season. On the season, the Pioneers are 4-2 in five-set matches.
In the LSC rankings, the Pioneers remain tied for fourth with Dallas Baptist.
IMPACT PLAYERS
- Tori Woods led the way for the Pioneers with 20 kills on the day. She also added 15 digs to record her 11th double-double of the season.
- Erin Jones and Cara Pool joined Woods with double digit kills. Jones finished the match with 15 kills, and Pool added 13. For her 13 kills, Pool hit .464 on the night.
- Jones also added a season high six digs in the win.
- Pool led the Pioneers on the night in protection of the net. She closed the match with a season high seven total blocks. Marina Obradovic also recorded a season high, finishing the match with three total blocks.
- Grace Reynolds dished out the most assists for TWU with 38 on the night. She added 11 digs to her stat line to record her 12th double-double and fourth straight.
- Luna França topped the Pioneer leaderboard in digs with 18. She also dished out eight assists in the win.
- The Pioneers finished with two aces on the night – one from Woods and another from Kenn Jean-Louis, which marked her first career ace.
PIONEER POWER MOMENTS
- TWU allowed OC to finish the night with 11 service aces to the Pioneers' two.
- The Pioneeers hit .287 on the night and held OC to hitting .164 - the Eagles' fourth works hitting percentage of the season.
- The Pioneers started off set one on a 11-2 run. They would continue to dominate throughout the set, leading by as much as 14, 23-9, after a kill by Obradovic.
- Another kill from Obradovic would set up set point. Then, a kill by Myracle Stockman would close the set in the Pioneers favor, 25-13.
- With a dominating performance in the opening set, the second set featured more back-and-forth action. Leading by one, 18-17. TWU mounted a 7-0 run to close the second set.
- An attack error from the Eagles ignited the run, 19-17. A kill by Pool brought up set point, 24-17, and Obradovic once again ended the set, 25-17.
- After establishing a two set lead, the Pioneers lost sets three and four to force a set five.
- In set three, the Pioneers scored four straight to come within one late in the set, 21-20; nevertheless, TWU would only score two more points in the set to fall in set three, 25-22.
- In set four, TWU struggled to string points together and allowed OC to go on long scoring runs. OC closed the set with four unanswered points to force a set five, 25-17.
- Set five started off with back-and-forth action. OC broke away with three straight points to lead by one, 8-7. Then, the Pioneers found their groove. An attack error by the Eagles followed by Jean-Louis's service ace ignited a 4-0 run for the Pioneers and gave TWU the advantage, 11-8.
- The Pioneers would allow the Eagles to score only two more points in the set.
- Woods scored three of Pioneers' last four points. After she set up match point, 14-10, Jones hit the dagger for TWU to win the set, 15-10, and the match, 3-2.
