DENTON, Texas (Nov. 10, 2024) – The Texas Woman's wrestling team hosted their first home dual of the season today at Kitty Magee Arena, taking on William Jewell and Colorado Mesa. Despite being defeated by the visiting Cardinals and Mavericks, the Pioneers earned a few bout wins in their two matches.
Tom Hanks and Pauline Grace Heimuli concluded their day 1-1 with wins in their respective weight class. Sloan Stewart and Victoria Pena contributed to team points against William Jewell after two forfeits from the Cardinals.

103 and 110 Weight Class: The Pioneers benefited from the availability of Sloan Stewart and Victoria Pena in the 103 and 110 weight classes, which contributed to their 10-0 start against William Jewell.

117 Weight Class: After losing her opening match of the day, Hanks made a strong comeback with a dominant tech fall victory over a Maverick opponent, earning four team points for TWU.

145 Weight Class: Although Flaherty lost her first match to WJU, she put up a commendable fight in a closely contested bout against Colorado Mesa, earning two team points despite a narrow decision loss.

207 Weight Class: Heimuli achieved an early 6-0 decision victory, securing three team points for the Pioneers in the final match of their first contest against the Cardinals.

The Pioneers will be off this week before heading to Marshall, Mo., for the Missouri Valley Open in two weeks on Friday, Nov. 22.
