DENTON, Texas (Nov. 11, 2024) – With the regular season in the books, the Texas Woman's soccer team is set to host the first round of the Lone Star Conference Tournament tomorrow night at Pioneer Soccer Park. Head Coach Babak Abouzar and his squad will take on the visiting Hilltoppers from St. Edward's, as the Pioneers look to secure their first opening conference win since 2019.
This match will be the 16th time these two teams have faced off against SEU leading the series 10-4-1. Texas Woman's has won the last two matchups between the two, including a win in 2023 when the Hilltoppers came into town. NEW SEASON AHEAD
-
A LOOK AT THE HILLTOPPERS: SEU is entering the postseason with a 9-7-2 overall record and is 7-5-1 in the conference. The Hilltoppers finished the regular season strong on a three game win streak after wins over UTPB, West Texas A&M, and Sul Ross. The three wins allowed them to climb up the conference standings and secure the sixth seed in the tournament. St. Edward's enters this matchup with the Pioneers with an impressive 4-2-1 away record as they aim for revenge tomorrow night.

A LOOK AT THE PIONEERS: Similar to the Hilltoppers, TWU is coming off a four game winning streak to close out the regular season as the three seed. Back-to-back three score games from the Pioneers have built up much needed momentum and confidence heading into the postseason. TWU finished the regular season 11-3-3 and with a conference record of 7-2-3. With a fresh slate ahead, the Pioneers will look to leave their mark at PSP and start their postseason run right at home.

START FAST AND STAY ACTIVE ON DEFENSE: The Pioneers have emphasized their aggressive attack all season long by getting shots up early and often, especially inside the 10 minute mark. In three of their last four matchups, TWU has taken shots before the 10 minute mark and finished the regular season with 211 total shots with an average of 12.4 shots a game. On the other side of the field, the Pioneer defense has stepped up on big moments with 11 shutouts, led by two-time goalkeeper of the week Amanda Farris. Farris and the solid TWU back line are tied for second in the conference in goals allowed with only 11 goals allowed.
The Lone Star Conference Tournament will kick off tomorrow at Pioneer Soccer Park for the Pioneers at 7 p.m., as TWU will take on St. Edward's for a chance to advance to the semifinal round held in San Angelo, Texas, on Friday.
