THE PIONEERS POUR ON THREE GOALS TO EARN 10TH WIN OF THE SEASON

DENTON, Texas (Nov. 1, 2024) – The Texas Woman's soccer team starts November with a 3-1 victory over the West Texas A&M Lady Buffs at Pioneer Soccer Park. The Pioneers earned their 10th win on Friday night and scored three goals for the first time this year. The attacking approach by the Pioneers played in their favor tonight as they capitalized on an early 2-0 first half lead and outlasted the Lady Buffs to finish the game on top.

TWU (10-3-3, 6-2-3) persevered in their matchup with WT (6-8-2, 3-6-2), in a high power offensive game from both squads, as they were identical on the stat sheet tonight. The Pioneers had the slight edge in scoring opportunities with a 15-13 shot advantage, but an aggressive second half by West Texas A&M led them to more shot opportunities and corner kicks that forced three saves to be made by Amanda Farris with one getting past the All-Conference goalkeeper.

IMPACT PLAYERS

KEY MOMENTS

  • '8: After two early chances by TWU, Halee Avery finished with a header off a free kick from Celeste Beltran to jumpstart the game with a quick 1-0 lead over WT.

  • After some stout defensive denying shots left and right and physical play, Beltran was able to capitalize in Pioneer territory with a strike from distance that shot just over the goalkeeper's head into the net to add to the Pioneers' lead in the 44th minute.

  • '78: As WT continued their attack for the equalizer, Farris and the Pioneer defense held up just enough for TWU to add to their lead and secure their third goal on a set piece by Abby Powers for her first goal of the season.

  • The late game goal by Powers put a lid on the win for TWU as Farris fended off two more WT shots to secure the 3-1 home conference win.

FROM HEAD COACH BABAK ABOUZAR
"I am proud of our team and the confidence they showed tonight," Head Coach Babak Abouzar said. "We were able tomove the ball around and press WT at a high level. We had three different goal scorers this game, who scored some quality goals. This was also the first game where we scored 3 goals this season. We will get some rest and get ready for our last home conference game of the season on Monday."

NEXT UP
The Pioneers have a quick turnaround and are back at Pioneer Soccer Park on Monday, Nov. 4, for Pack the House Night. TWU will take on UT Tyler in a huge LSC matchup, and the match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
