PIONEERS MEET COLORADO SCHOOL OF MINES IN FIRST ROUND OF NCAA TOURNAMENT

DENTON, Texas (March 15, 2024) – The Texas Woman's basketball team prepares to start their journey in the 2024 NCAA Division II South Central Regional Tournament tomorrow at 5 p.m. against Colorado School of Mines.

TWU (29-4) will meet Colorado School of Mines (21-8) on Friday night in the quarterfinal round of the South Central Regional Tournament.

The Pioneers have met the Orediggers once this season in a non-conference match-up on Nov. 16, 2023. TWU won the home meeting in KMA, 72-66.

Most recently, TWU claimed the Lone Star Conference Tournament title with their 70-60 win over UT Permian Basin. On the other side, Colorado School of Mines fell in the opening round of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament to UCCS, 71-65.

POST SEASON TIME LET'S GO
  • LAST TIME MEETING: The Pioneers and Orediggers met on Nov. 16, 2023 in a non-conference game in Denton, Texas. TWU won the meeting, 72-66. Four Pioneers scored in double-digits in the win: Ashley Ingram, Jada Celsur, Leila Patel and Scout Huffman. Ingram led the way with 18 points and three blocks. Averee Kleinhans led TWU on the boards with 10 rebounds. TWU out-rebounded the Orediggers in the meeting 38-32. The Pioneers scored 38 points in the paint, 16 bench points and 11 points off turnovers.
  • STRONG START: In the first meeting, TWU and Colorado School of Mines were tied through two straight quarters. Then, the third quarter proved to be the difference maker. Out of the halftime break, TWU outscored the Orediggers 20-11 in the third quarter. The Pioneers paired the strong start with the even stronger third quarter. The third quarter also proved to be the difference maker throughout the LSC Tournament. Look for TWU to pair a strong start with a strong third quarter on Friday night.
  • GET TO THE FOUL LINE: The Pioneers went to the line 25 times and shot 72% from the free throw line. This stat line proved to be a big difference in the contest. The Orediggers only went to the charity stripe six times. TWU will look to limit the fouls and get to the free throw line on Friday night.
