BATON ROUGE, La. (March 7, 2024) – The Texas Woman's gymnastics team is back on the road this weekend for a dual meet week.
TWU will start the road trip in Baton Rouge, La. on Friday, March 8, as the Pioneers will compete at the Purple and Gold Podium Challenge at 6 p.m. on Friday night. Hosted in the Raising Canes River Center, the meet will feature LSU, Auburn and George Washington.
This will mark the Pioneers seventh time competing against LSU, but they have not met the Tigers since the 2022 season. TWU has competed against Auburn four times previously, but they have not gone against Aubrun since the 2020 season. Finally, this will mark the third meeting between the Pioneers and George Washington – their first meeting since 2019.
Most recently, the Pioneers competed at home in Kitty Magee Arena, as they hosted Oklahoma, Clemson and Penn in a quad meet. The Pioneers scored their second highest team score in program history with a 196.275. TWU also set three season high event scores at the meet on their way to the season high score – setting season highs on vault, beam and bars.
At the quad meet, four Pioneers set career highs.
Sophia Isbell scored a career high 9.825 on vault,
Lainey Hunt recorded a 9.825 career high on bars,
Sophie Hernandez scored a career high 9.825 on beam and
Aaliyah Gilmore finished with a 9.775 career high on bars.
Friday will be the Pioneers' first road meet since Feb. 23 at Utah State. The Pioneers will look to continue to set new career marks at the Purple and Gold Podium Challenge on Friday night at 6 p.m.
