WEST CHESTER, Pa. (April 13, 2024) – A night where everything was left on the floor, and a night where heart and passion were on display.
In their final team meet of the 2024 season, the Texas Woman's gymnastics team scored a 195.450 and finished second at the USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championship Finals.
Lindenwood claimed the title with a 195.700, Air Force finished third with a 194.850 and West Chester placed fourth with a 193.525.
The Pioneers closed a historical season as a team tonight. They broke multiple records throughout the season and continued to elevate the legacy of TWU gymnastics. During the 2024 season, TWU set a new record for highest team score in a season opener, highest team score in a home opener, largest home crowd, highest score on floor and highest NQS. They also had two individuals set new program records on events.
Daisy Woodring scored a perfect 9.950 on vault to break the program record, and
Kaitlyn Hoiland set the individual program mark on bars with a 9.950. Additionally, Woodring and
Sophie Hernandez both tied the program record on floor, as they both scored a 9.950 during the season.
Tonight, the Pioneers started off the night on bars with a 48.825, as they closed the first rotation with the lead.
Brooke Ferrari kept up her high scoring from yesterday afternoon, as she once again led the Pioneers. Tonight, she scored a 9.850. Hoiland closed her season on bars for TWU, as the teams strong and consistent anchor with a 9.850 to also lead TWU.
Caroline Bowns found her groove and scored a 9.725.
Aaliyah Gilmore closed her freshman campaign with a 9.700. In her first season as the bars lead off,
Lainey Hunt closed out her junior season in exciting fashion with a 9.700. Finally,
Kami Zarlengo excitedly scored a 9.700 to ignite the T-Dub chants from the Pioneer faithful.
The Pioneers moved over to beam for the second rotation. Leading the Pioneers on the balance beam was
Emma Brkljacic, who scored a 9.875 in joyful fashion. Hoiland continued her strong night and scored a 9.825 to wrap up her season on the balance beam for the Pioneers.
Emily Six built on her great performance yesterday and set the tone high in the lead off spot for TWU with a 9.775. Finally, Hernandez capped off her decorated freshman season on the balance beam with a 9.675 to round out the top scores for the Pioneers on the balance beam. TWU scored a 48.600 on the balance and was tied with Lindenwood heading into the third rotation.
For the third rotation, TWU moved over to the floor exercise, where they scored a 48.850. Hernandez built upon her beam performance and capped off her historical freshman season on floor with a 9.850 to lead the Pioneers. Senior
Madeline Gose in her final floor performance of her career rocked the Hollinger Field House and scored a 9.775. The seniors had a party on floor, as Woodring was all smiles in her final floor performance for the Pioneers, scoring a 9.775. In her second career performance on floor,
Sophia Isbell kept the strong energy going with a 9.725. Senior
Steelie King brought the crowd to their feet with her 9.725, and in her final floor performance of her career, Six scored a 9.625. Following the third rotation, the Pioneers trailed Lindenwood by just 0.05.
TWU closed the night on the vault in historical fashion and truly left everything on the floor. With their 49.175, the Pioneers tied their program record on vault, a record which was set in 2017. Brkljacic set the tone, leading TWU off with her career high 9.825 as she wrapped up her incredible first season with the Pioneers. Zarlengo closed her sophomore season on vault with a strong 9.725, which marked a season high. King kept the energy rolling with her 9.750 to close her season strong. Then, in the fourth spot, Isbell scored a career high 9.850 to continue to elevate the score for the Pioneers. Woodring officially closed her final meet with TWU, scoring a 9.850. Ending the meet and leading TWU on vault was Hoiland, who scored a career high 9.900, as she truly put the exclamation point on the final meet of the season.
Despite matching the program record on vault, Lindenwood closed the meet with a 49.3875 on the uneven bars to edge the Pioneers and claim the title.
TWU will officially close their season tomorrow as five Pioneers – Hoiland, Isbell, Ferrari, Zarlengo and Six – compete in the Individual Event Finals at 12 p.m. CST.
