DENTON, Texas (Oct. 25, 2025) – The cleaning continued for the Texas Woman's volleyball team on Saturday afternoon, as the Pioneers recorded their second straight sweep with a win over UT Permian Basin.
TWU (14-7, 7-3) won their Saturday match in straight sets, recording their fourth straight win against UTPB (7-13, 5-5) in their last four meetings.
The Pioneers held the Falcons to their third lowest hitting percentage of the season at .065. TWU did not give up one ace, as they recorded six total aces on the day. Additionally, the block continued to be a strong, defining point for the Pioneers, as they finished the day with 14 total blocks – their seventh match this season with 10 or more blocks. TWU ranks second in the Lone Star Conference in blocks, as they average 2.57 blocks per set.
In the LSC, the Pioneers hold strong at No. 4 with seven conference matches still ahead this season.
KEY PLAYERS
- Sydney Garrison led the way on offense for the Pioneers with 10 total blocks – her ninth match with 10 or more kills this season. She hit .474 on the afternoon and added seven digs and three block assists, which matched her career high.
- Tori Woods and Trinity Blackwood both added eight kills in the win.
- Kiana Reed and Lorena Gómez both finished with double-digit assists. Reed recorded 17, and Gómez added 15 in the win, as the setters put the Pioneers in position to hit .301 on the day.
- Alyssa Rojo recorded 10 digs to lead TWU.
- Cat Millsap and Jonaida Donowa both contributed two aces to top the leaderboard for TWU.
- Benedite Anuman led the defense for the Pioneers with six total block assists. She also matched her career high with two block solos. Donowa added five total blocks, and Myracle Stockman finished with four.
PIONEER POWER MOMENTS
- In the first set, back-to-back blocks by the Pioneers pushed them out to an early 7-2 lead. TWU would not trail throughout the entirety of set one.
- After a kill by Stockman put TWU ahead 21-15, the Falcons mounted a 4-0 run. The Pioneers regrouped and quickly held off UTPB, scoring two quick points to stop their run.
- A kill from Garrison stopped a 2-0 run by the Falcons and brought up set point for the Pioneers. A monster block by Anuman and Blackwood would end the set for the Pioneers, 25-22.
- In both set two and three, the Pioneers only allowed UTPB to score 13 points in each set.
- TWU quickly set the tone in set two, opening with a 7-2 run. Then, late in the set, kills by Garrison bookended a 7-1 run to put TWU ahead 15-8. The Pioneers mounted another long run (7-1) to extend their lead to 22-11. A kill from Blackwood brought up set point and an attack error from UTPB ended the set in favor for the Pioneers, 25-13.
- Despite UTPB scoring the first point of set three and then jumping out to an early 3-2 lead, the Pioneers responded with a 12-1 run. A kill by Anuman started the scoring for TWU, and the run included three blocks from Anuman. Following the run, the Pioneers would lead by 10, 14-4.
- After an attack error brought up match point, a kill by Blackwood clinched the win for the Pioneers, 25-13.
