ON DIG PINK NIGHT, PIONEERS SWEEP THE DUSTDEVILS

DENTON, Texas (Oct. 28, 2025) – Another Texas Woman's volleyball game – another sweep in Kitty Magee Arena.

TWU (15-7, 8-3) recorded their fifth straight sweep at home on Tuesday night, as they defeated Texas A&M International (4-17, 2-10). It marked the Pioneers 10th sweep of the season.

The Pioneers donned pink jerseys tonight in honor of breast cancer awareness. Prior to the match starting, TWU recognized breast cancer survivors, those battling and those who lost their lives.

In the match, TWU held the Dustdevils to hitting .015 on the night for just 36 total kills. Across the sets, the Pioneers never gave up more than 18 points.

KEY PLAYERS
  • Sydney Garrison led the way on offense for the Pioneers. She recorded 11 kills and added 10 digs to mark her fourth double-double of the season. Garrison finished with a diversified stat line, as she closed the match with one ace, one block solo and one block assist.
  • Tori Woods added eight kills and nine digs in the win.
  • Jonaida Donowa led the protection at the net for the Pioneers with four total blocks, and the reigning Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week, Benedite Anuman, recorded three total blocks on the night. Anuman also finished with seven kills and hit .545 on the match.
  • The Pioneers two setters, Kiana Reed and Lorena Gómez, both finished the match with 17 assists. Reed finished with nine digs, and Gomez added six.
  • Alyssa Rojo topped the Pioneers leader board with 23 digs – her sixth match this season with 20 or more digs. She currently ranks second in the LSC in digs per set, averaging 2.08.
PIONEER POWER MOMENTS
  • The Pioneers hit .234 on the night for 41 kills and only committed 12 hitting errors. It marked their 10th match with 12 or less errors.
  • They held the Dustdevils to hitting their second lowest percentage of the season.
  • TWU started off hot in set one, as a kill from Myracle Stockman got the scoring rolling and allowed TWU to open with a 7-1 scoring run.
  • A block by Garrison and Anuman gave the Pioneers their 20th point of the set and increased their lead to nine, 20-11. They would allow TAMIU to score just two more points, as a kill from Woods brought up set point and a kill from Donowa ended the set for TWU, 25-13.
  • The second set was back-and-forth scoring to start, as the score was tied five times. With it tied at nine, the Pioneers hit their stride and scored six straight to take a commanding 15-9 lead. Following their long run, they never looked back. Two kills from Woods would end the set for TWU, 25-17.
  • In set three, the Dustdevils opened with five straight to lead, 5-2. Then, a kill from Woods, followed by a TAMIU attack error and a kill by Garrison brought TWU within one, 6-5. A bad set by the Dustdevils and a kill by Blackwood gave TWU the lead, 7-6.
  • Both teams would find runs late in the set. With the score tied at 14, TWU found the lead off a TAMIU service error and would never trail or be tied again in the match. A 3-0 run by the Pioneers would complete the sweep, as a kill from Anuman closed the set, 25-18.
HEAR FROM HEAD COACH JESSICA RANSOM

"Any win in the Lone Star Conference is a great win. We didn't play as clean as we would have liked, but we still did a lot of good things. We have a tough road trip coming up, and we hope to carry the momentum into the weekend."

NEXT UP

TWU will go on the road for their next match. They meet current No. 1 in the conference Lubbock Christian (19-5, 11-1) on Friday, Oct. 31 in Lubbock, Texas. LCU just dropped their first conference match of the season tonight, as they lost in five sets to West Texas A&M.
