TWU FALLS ON HALLOWEEN NIGHT TO LCU

LUBBOCK, Texas (Oct. 31, 2025) – On a spook-tacular night, where many were trick-or-treating, the Texas Woman's volleyball team aimed to bring their own bag of tricks to Lubbock, Texas and leave with the treat of a win over the No. 1 team in the Lone Star Conference.

Despite storming back and winning the second and third set to go ahead 2-1 in the match, TWU (15-8, 8-4) took Lubbock Christian (20-5, 12-1) to five sets, but the Pioneers were unable to overcome an early fifth set deficit to secure the victory.

It marked TWU's third fifth set match of the season, as TWU moves to 1-2 in those matches. On the other side, the Lady Chaps played in their sixth five-set match of the season, and they are now 3-3 in those matches.

In the loss, the Pioneers were strong defensively, recording 14 blocks on the night – their eighth match of the season with 10 or more blocks.

KEY PLAYERS
  • Myracle Stockman finished the match with 16 kills and only two errors, hitting .286 on the night. Stockman also added two total blocks. Tori Woods also finished with 16 kills, and she also recorded 17 digs – marking her fourth double-double of the season.
  • Sydney Garrison joined Stockman and Woods with double-digit kills, adding 11 to the stat line. She finished with two aces, two blocks and a career high 20 digs.
  • Kiana Reed led the Pioneers in assists with 26, while Lorena Gómez recorded 19 assists. Both setters also finished with double-digit digs. Reed added 15 digs to record her 10th double-double of the season, and Gómez grabbed 16 digs for her third double-double of the season.
  • Alyssa Rojo led TWU with 42 digs – a career high for the junior.
  • Jonaida Donowa led the block protection with seven total blocks, including four block assists and three block solos. Benedite Anuman added six total blocks for the Pioneers.
PIONEER POWER MOMENTS
  • The Pioneers held LCU to hitting .183, while the Pioneers were held to hitting .142. While winning the blocking battle, TWU also won the ace category, 6-5. Both Garrison and Cat Millsap led TWU with two aces each.
  • The Lady Chaps jumped out to a quick 9-2 lead in set one. A kill by Garrison broke the run by LCU to bring TWU to 9-3. However, in set one, the Pioneers struggled to piece together runs to overcome the deficit. After the long run by LCU to open the set, TWU did settle in and not allow longer than a 4-0 run late in the set.
  • A kill by Stockman momentarily staved off the Lady Chaps, 24-25, but a kill from LCU in response in the set, 25-15.
  • In set two, TWU regrouped and found their energy. A kill by Woods and a block by Donowa and Garrison opened up the set 2-0 for the Pioneers.
  • Despite the score being tied three times over the course of the set, TWU responded. However, the Pioneers fell behind 14-17. They responded with a 7-1 run, which was ignited by a kill from Anuman. The run put TWU back in front, 21-17.
  • Leading 21-20, TWU did not mess around closing the set. They scored four straight starting with a kill by Woods. Then, back-to-back scoring errors by the Lady Chaps ended the set for the Pioneers, 25-20.
  • With the sets tied, 1-1, and the momentum, the Pioneers looked to keep the winning going in set three. Play was tight throughout the beginning of the third set. TWU trailed for the majority of the set, but were never down by much, as they stayed composed.
  • Trailing 20-21, TWU mounted a 5-0 run to win the set, 25-21. A kill by Garrison tied it up at 21. Then, an ace from Millsap gave the Pioneers their first lead of the set, 22-21. An attack error by the Lady Chaps would bring up set point, and another ace by Millsap would end the set in favor of TWU, 25-21.
  • With the commanding 2-1 set lead, the Pioneers looked to close it out in set four. The score would be tied three times early on. Trailing 9-12, a kill from Anuman ignited a 3-0 scoring run for TWU to tie it back up at 12 all. The score would be tied again at 13 after a kill by Garrison. Following the tie, TWU could not find the lead. LCU would score four straight to close the set and force a set five, 25-20.
  • The start of set five was all Lady Chaps, as they jumped out to a quick 6-1 lead. Trailing 9-13, the Pioneers kept the fight going and did not back down. Back-to-back kills by Stockman kept TWU in the hunt, 11-13.  TWU's stifling defense forced LCU to make mistakes, as back-to-back attack errors by the Lady Chaps tied the set at 13. Nevertheless, LCU would connect on two kills to end the set and win the match, 15-13.
