PORTALES, N.M. (Oct. 3, 2025) – On Friday night, the Texas Woman's volleyball team played in their first road match of their 2025 Lone Star Conference schedule.
TWU (9-5, 2-1) claimed the victory over Eastern New Mexico (3-10, 1-2) in four sets on the road in Portales, claiming their second win in LSC play this season.
The win marked the Pioneers fourth straight win over the Greyhounds and 29th win all-time against ENMU.
In the match, TWU held the Greyhounds to hitting just .107. The Pioneers rank No. 1 in the LSC in lowest opponent hitting percentage, holding opponents on average to hitting .138.
TWU stayed strong on the block in the match. They finished with 10 blocks, marking their fourth match with double-digit blocks and second straight.
KEY PLAYERS
- Tori Woods led the Pioneers with 16 kills, and she added 13 digs, which marked her second double-double of the season and second straight. Woods also hit .318 on her way to 16 kills in the win.
- Sydney Garrison joined Woods in double-digit assists with 10 on the night.
- Alyssa Rojo led TWU in digs with 14.
- Kiana Reed led the Pioneers in assists with 21. It marked her 10th match with 20 or more assists and sixth straight.
- Jonaida Donowa topped the TWU leader board with six block assists. Trinity Blackwood and Myracle Stockman both added four each.
PIONEER POWER MOMENTS
- TWU opened the first set with three straight points to set the tone early. They held the lead for the entirety of the first set. Their longest run of the set came after a kill from Stockman ignited a 4-0 run to put TWU ahead, 19-11.
- A kill by Garrison followed by an attack error by ENMU brought up set point, and another kill by Garrison ended the set in favor of the Pioneers, 25-17.
- In the second set, the score went back-and-forth until TWU gave up a 4-0 run to the Greyhounds, as they took a 17-14 lead. The Pioneers would come within two, 23-21, but were unable to close the gap. ENMU ended the set with two straight points to even up the match and win set two, 25-21.
- Pioneer flipped the script and gained the momentum in set three early, as they opened the set with four unanswered points. TWU would never trail in set three. Four straight attack errors for the Greyhounds gave TWU an 18-13 advantage.
- A kill by Donowa would bring up the 23-17 lead, but ENMU scored five unanswered points late in the set to come within one point, 23-22. Nevertheless, TWU was able to respond and close the set with two straight points, a service error by ENMU and a kill by Garrison, as the Pioneers won set three, 25-22.
- The Pioneers looked to close out the match in set four. They found their stride after a kill by ENMU brought the score to 12-9. TWU responded with five unanswered points – a run which was book-ended by kills from Woods, as the Pioneers led 17-9.
- With the score 22-18, TWU closed out the match with three straight points - two kills from Garrison and a kill from Stockman won the set for the Pioneers, 25-18, as TWU claimed the match victory 3-1.
