PIONEERS POST SEVENTH SHUTOUT OF SEASON IN ROAD WIN OVER UTPB

ODESSA, Texas (Oct. 8, 2025) – Texas Woman's Soccer secured their seventh shutout of the season with a composed 2-0 victory over Texas Permian Basin on Wednesday night at UTPB Soccer Field.

The Pioneers (9-1-1, 5-1-1 LSC) wasted no time gaining momentum, striking twice in the opening 23 minutes and holding the Falcons (2-6-1, 1-6-0) scoreless to earn their fifth Lone Star Conference win.

TWU recorded 22 total shots and 10 on goal, marking the fourth game this season with at least 20 shots and 10 or more on frame. The Pioneers dominated possession and outshot UTPB 11-1 in the first half and 22-6 overall.

IMPACT PLAYERS

KEY MOMENTS

  • 9': TWU opened the scoring early with a fluid play with Luna connecting with Gutierrez, who threaded a quick pass across the box to Arizmendi as she buried the finish to put the Pioneers ahead, 1-0.

  • 23': Gutierrez added to her night with a goal of her own, controlling a through ball played forward by Bueno and the junior slotted her shot into the net, doubling TWU's lead.

  • 58'-79': As UTPB searched for a way back into the match, goalkeeper Graves made two key saves in the second half to deny any momentum and preserved the shutout.

  • The Pioneers kept their foot on the gas throughout the second half, earning six corner kicks and forcing five saves from the Falcons' goalkeeper. Defensively, TWU's back line remained organized and composed, limiting UTPB to just two shots on goal.

  • Goalkeepers Farris and Graves split time in net, combining for the team's seventh clean sheet of the season.

FROM HEAD COACH BABAK ABOUZAR
"Great team response tonight," Abouzar said. "We created some good opportunities and had moments of brilliance that we were able to capitalize on. Jaida had a really nice goal through attacking combination play, and Giselle brought down a great ball played to her by Lupita. Proud of how we bounced back."
