DENTON, Texas (Nov. 9, 2025) – After picking up a key win to cap the regular season, the Texas Woman's soccer team is preparing Pioneer Soccer Park for the first round of the Lone Star Conference Tournament on Monday night Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. The Pioneers will face the visiting Rattlers from St. Mary's in search of a berth in the tournament semifinals in Dallas.

This will be the 12th all-time meeting between the two programs, with St. Mary's leading the series. TWU has won the last two matchups on the road in San Antonio, including a 3-0 victory earlier this season on Sept. 24. On Wednesday, Head Coach Babak Abouzar and his squad were ranked seventh in the South Central Region, just behind Regis at No. 6.

POSTSEASON TIME

• A LOOK AT STMU: St. Mary's enters Monday's contest on a four-match winning streak and has not lost since a 1-0 defeat to Angelo State in San Angelo on Oct. 11. The Rattlers finished the regular season 9-5-3 overall and 8-4-2 in conference play after closing with a 1-0 win over Lubbock Christian on Nov. 4. Defensively, the Rattlers will aim to contain Texas Woman's potent attack, led by junior forward Giselle Gutierrez, who scored twice in TWU's 3-0 win over St. Mary's in September.

• A  LOOK AT THE PIONEERS: TWU enters the Lone Star Conference Tournament quarterfinals riding a four-match winning streak — all by shutout. The Pioneers have found ways to close out tight matchups down the stretch, showing steady improvement throughout the year. Gutierrez leads the Pioneers with 10 goals and five assists. Defensively, TWU has recorded 11 shutouts this season, including four straight heading into the postseason. 

• KEYS TO THE GAME: REGULAR SEASON MATCHUP RESULTS ARE A NON FACTOR>> Despite early struggles against the top half of the LSC and a 3-0 loss to TWU in September, St. Mary's has bounced back impressively — going 8-1-2 since that defeat and riding a four-match win streak into the tournament. TWU will need to stay focused and maintain a new-game mindset to keep its postseason momentum rolling at Pioneer Soccer Park.

The second round of the Lone Star Conference Tournament begins Monday at 7 p.m. as TWU hosts St. Mary's for a spot in Thursday's semifinal round in Dallas.
