PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Dec. 17, 2025) – After winning their 13th National Championship, the Texas Woman's University gymnastics team was receiving votes in the
2025 Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) Preseason Poll.
Every year, the WCGA ranks the top 36 gymnastics programs, as voted on by the members of the WCGA.
"Within our program we get the opportunity daily to see the abilities of these student-athletes and to see how they practice like a top 36 team, so it's exciting to know that others around the country can see that in us as well," said TWU Gymnastics Head Coach
Lisa Bowerman. "We are looking forward to getting out on the competition floor January 11
and setting the tone for a historic season."
The University of Oklahoma topped the preseason poll at No. 1, with 39 first place votes, after the Sooners won the NCAA National Championship in 2025. LSU came in at No. 2 with five first place votes. Florida and UCLA both received four first place votes and were ranked No. 3 and No. 4 respectively. Utah rounded out the top five, as they received one first place vote. Missouri was the only team outside of the top five who received first place votes. They were ranked seventh and received two first place votes.
Illinois State, a fellow Midwest Independent Conference gymnastics program, was also represented in the preseason poll as receiving votes.
In their 2026 season, TWU will compete against 11 programs represented in the top 36 in the preseason poll. Of the 11 programs, three of the Pioneers' competitors are in the top 10 – Oklahoma, Florida and Arkansas.
The Pioneers returned 15 gymnasts from their national championship squad last season. Additionally, TWU welcomed four freshmen and one transfer for the 2026 season.
