DENTON, Texas (Aug. 18, 2025) – Building champions in competition and in academics remains a core mission of the Texas Woman's gymnastics team.
This year, the Pioneers closed their season by winning the 2025 Women's Collegiate Gymnastics National Invitational Championship – claiming their 13th National Title in program history.
Following the conclusion of the 2024-25 academic year, based on data submitted to the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA), TWU boasted a team grade point average of 3.8733 – the third highest GPA among all gymnastics teams in the nation.
"I am incredibly proud of these ladies for another outstanding year of academic success," said TWU Gymnastics Head Coach
Lisa Bowerman. "This program is the definition of 'how you do anything is how you do everything'. They give 100% effort to every area of their lives, and they consistently exhibit excellence in the gym and in the classroom. These results are simply a testament to their hard work and commitment to themselves, their teammates and this program."
This marks the ninth time out of the last 11 years the Pioneers have ranked in the Top 5 in percentage of team being above a 3.5, which is the most consistent excellence among all programs. It also marks the 23rd year the Pioneers have ranked in the Top 10 as a team and seventh year in the Top three, since the award began in 1990.
Leading them to a stellar team GPA, nine Pioneers –
Amane' Glenn,
Bailey Bourgeois,
Bailey Upton,
Caroline Bowns,
Kaitlyn Hoiland,
Kami Zarlengo,
Lainey Hunt,
Maddy Murphy and
Sophia Isbell – posted a 4.0 GPA. All 20 Pioneer gymnasts recorded above a 3.50 GPA for the 2024-25 academic year, which means every Pioneer was named a Scholastic All-American.
Posting the Top GPA in the nation was Alaska-Anchorage with a 3.8940 team GPA, and Western Michigan finished in second with a 3.8880 team GPA.
The list compiled by the WCGA includes collegiate gymnastic programs from all divisions across the nation. For the 2024-25 academic year, 1,218 student-athletes achieved a 3.5 or higher GPA, with 302 earning a 4.0 GPA (the most since available records in 2008). The average GPA across all reporting gymnasts was a 3.6558, which marks the highest GPA since the available records in 2015.
