PIONEERS MEET ASU ON THURSDAY

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Feb. 20, 2025) – The Texas Woman's basketball team goes on the road on Thursday to compete against Angelo State.

No. 1 TWU (25-1, 18-1) will meet ASU (16-9, 12-7) for the only time this season in San Angelo, Texas.

Both the Pioneers and the Rambelles were under consideration on the first NCAA South Central Regional ranking, which was released on Wednesday.

Last week, TWU continued their winning streak in Kitty Magee Arena, defeating Texas A&M International and Texas A&M – Kingsville.

On the other side, ASU dropped two games on the road to Lubbock Christian and Midwestern State.

  • HISTORY WITH THE RAMBELLES: The Pioneers are 23-47 all-time against ASU. They last defeated Angelo State at home during the 2024 season, 79-72. On the road, the Pioneers are 6-28. TWU last claimed the win in San Angelo, Texas during the 2012-13 season. In their meeting last season, Ashley Ingram led the way with 26 points and nine rebounds. Leila Patel added 16 points, Averee Kleinhans finished with 14 points and Jada Celsur recorded 2 points and seven rebounds in the win. The Pioneers shot 45.5% from the field and scored 14 second chance points.
  • TOP DEFENSE VS. TOP OFFENSE: The Pioneers rank No. 1 in the Lone Star Conference and fourth in Division II in scoring defense, holding their opponents to an average of 50.1 points per game. The Rambelles currently rank second in the LSC in scoring offense, averaging 70.6 points per game. The Pioneers also hold their opponents to the second lowest field goal percentage in the LSC and eighth lowest in Division II at 34.4% per game. ASU ranks third in the LSC in opponent field goal percentage and 26th in Division II at 35.4% per game.
  • CRASH THE BOARDS: TWU ranks first in the LSC in combined opponent rebounds, holding their opponent to 30 rebounds per game. The Rambelles ranks first in the LSC and 13th in Division II in combined team rebounds, averaging 42.6 rebounds per game. Madeline Stephens from ASU ranks second in the LSC in rebounds per game, averaging 9.4, and Ingram ranks fourth, averaging 9.1 per game.
