DENTON, Texas. (Feb. 23, 2025) – The Texas Woman's University wrestling team hosted the Regional Tournament at Kitty Magee Arena, where wrestlers from 10 teams gathered in Denton, Texas, to earn a spot at the 2025 National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championship.
The top four wrestlers in each weight class earned a trip to Coralville, Iowa. TWU's very own Poorna Babu had a strong showing, finishing fourth in the 160-pound weight class to secure her ticket to Nationals.
Babu ended the day with a 3-2 record and accumulated 12.5 team points. In the first round, she won by tech fall over Maria Arellano from Chadron State. In the quarterfinals, Babu secured another tech fall victory, this time over Kaylee Ricketts from Fort Hays State. She suffered her first defeat in the semifinals against Simon Fraser, but bounced back in her next match, defeating Kimberly Carlin from Colorado Mesa University by decision to secure a spot in the third-place match. Although Babu was defeated by decision in the third-place match, her performance was strong enough to earn her a trip to Nationals.
