DENTON, Texas (March 5, 2025) – As the Texas Woman's basketball team enters the Lone Star Conference tournament, they come into the week ranked No. 1 on both national polls and in the NCAA South Central Regional Rankings.
TWU (28-1, 21-1) held strong on both the
Women's Basketball Coaches National Poll and the
D2CSC Media National Poll this week in the top spot.
Additionally, the second numerical
NCAA South Central Regional Ranking was released. After being ranked at No. 2 last week, the Pioneers jumped up one spot to No. 1 in the South Central Region. Lubbock Christian (27-3) dropped to No. 2, and UT Tyler (24-3) remained at No. 3. Out of the Top 10 ranked teams in the region, four were from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and six represented the Lone Star Conference.
The Pioneers moved up one spot after defeating UT Tyler on Thursday, Feb. 27, 71-61, and clinching the No. 1 seed in the Lone Star Conference Tournament.
This marks the final regional ranking until the Selection Show airs on March 9 at 9:30 p.m.
On the WBCA Poll, Grand Valley State (29-2) remained at No. 2, and Bentley (28-1) held steady at No. 3. Cal State Dominguez Hills (29-1) moved up one spot to No. 4. Ashland (27-3) and UT Tyler (25-3) were tied for fifth.
On the D2CSC Media Poll, Grand Valley State was also ranked second, but Cal State Dominguez Hills was up at No. 3. Bentley dropped to No. 4, and Concordia-St. Paul (27-2) came up from No. 7 to No. 5.
From the Lone Star Conference, Lubbock Christian joined the Patriots and the Pioneers on the national rankings. The Lady Chaps moved up one spot to No. 11 on the WBCA National Poll. On the D2CSC National Poll, Lubbock Christian moved up three spots to No. 8.
Colorado Mesa, from the South Central Region, moved up four spots to No. 21 this week on the WBCA National Poll, and came up one spot to No. 22 on the D2CSC Media Poll.
The Pioneers currently rank first in the LSC and fourth in Division II in defense, holding their opponents to just 50.7 points per game. TWU is also holding their opponents to shooting 34.3% from the field, which ranks second in the LSC and eighth in Division II. They are currently on a 22-game win streak and 16-home game win streak.
TWU will meet the eight seed UT Permian Basin in the LSC Tournament tomorrow night at 6 p.m. at the Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas.
