ELLIOTT SCORES CAREER HIGH IN TWU'S 14TH STRAIGHT WIN OF THE SEASON

AUSTIN, Texas (Jan. 17, 2026) – The Texas Woman's basketball team displayed their road warrior mentality, as they claimed their 14th straight win and remained a perfect 9-0 on the road, with a 78-69 victory over St. Edward's.

TWU (15-1, 9-0) recorded their 10th straight win all-time against SEU (9-8, 3-6) on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers opened each half with 21-point quarters to guide them to the win over the Hilltoppers.

The Pioneers dominated the paint area in the win, outscoring the Hilltoppers 34-14. Additionally, TWU won the rebounding battle, 35-25, which included 14 offensive rebounds for 15 second chance points.  

With the win, TWU remained undefeated in conference action. They are currently tied with West Texas A&M for the top spot. Former undefeated Eastern New Mexico dropped to 8-1 today after a loss to Lubbock Christian.

IMPACT PLAYERS
  • Gabby Elliott led the way for the Pioneers. She finished the game with a career high 27 points on 11-of-12 from the field and 5-of-7 from the free throw line. She also grabbed eight rebounds, five of which were offensive, and added one block and three steals.
  • Jada Celsur scored 19 points in the win on 3-of-4 shooting from beyond the arc. She added five rebounds and two assists to her stat line.
  • Averee Kleinhans was the final Pioneer to post double-digit points, as she finished her 33 minutes of action with 18 points. She shot a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line – her sixth game this season and fourth straight to go 100% from the charity stripe. She also added seven rebounds and four assists.
  • Kayla Glover grabbed six rebounds – four offensive – to help limit SEU's possessions. She also dished out three assists and went 3-of-4 from the field for six points.
PIONEER POWER MOMENTS
  • The Pioneers opened the game with 21 points. They found their first lead of the afternoon at 7:20 on the clock with a jumper by Celsur to go up by two, 4-2. The score would be tied five times in the opening 10 minutes. The final tie came with 2:20 remaining in the first at 15-15. Then, TWU closed the quarter with four unanswered points, as Kleinhans connected on two free throws and Avery McConnell hit a jumper to send TWU into the second quarter ahead, 21-15.
  • To start the second quarter, Elliott went on her own six-point run to help TWU maintain a tight three-point lead, 29-26, with 6:03 on the clock. TWU's largest lead of the second quarter was seven points with 2:42 left in the half after two made free throws by Elliott, as Elliott opened the first half with 16 total points. The Pioneers seven-point lead diminished to close the half, as SEU went on a 9-2 run in the final 2:42 to tie the game at 39 heading into halftime.
  • Out of the break, TWU came out firing on all cylinders, as they outscored the Hilltoppers 21-11 in the third quarter of action. The Pioneers opened the quarter with seven unanswered points to push their lead quickly back up to seven, 46-39. TWU found their first double-digit lead of the day, 58-48, following a made free throw by Elliott with 2:31 remaining in the quarter.
  • Following the 9:41 mark of the third quarter, when TWU took a one-point advantage off an Elliott free throw, the Pioneers would never trail for the remainder of the game. The Pioneers took a 10-point lead into the fourth quarter, 60-50.
  • TWU's largest lead of the afternoon was 17, 78-61, after a Madi Lumsden layup off the Glover assist with 4:47 remaining in the game. While SEU closed the fourth with eight straight points, the Pioneers fought until the end for the 78-69 win.
NEXT UP
TWU will return home next week for more Lone Star Conference action. They will meet Midwestern State on Thursday, Jan. 22 at 6 p.m. in Kitty Magee Arena.
