PIONEERS CONTINUE UNDEFEATED STREAK IN LSC PLAY WITH WIN OVER MSU

SDENTON, Texas (Jan. 23, 2026) – Before the winter storm rolled in, the Texas Woman's basketball team brought a scoring storm of their own to Kitty Magee Arena, as the Pioneers claimed their 15th straight victory of the season on Thursday night.

TWU (16-1, 10-0) remained undefeated in Lone Star Conference action last night, as they defeated Midwestern State (4-11, 1-8) 66-55.

In the opening quarter of action, the Pioneers locked down on defense to set the tone early, outscoring the Mustangs 19-9. It marked TWU's 16th quarter this season holding their opponent to less than 10 points in a quarter.

Despite struggling from the three point line, TWU caught fire from inside the paint – scoring 46 points in the paint. Additionally, they used their defense to propel their offense, as they forced MSU to turn the ball over 16 times for 19 total TWU points. The Pioneers also owned the rebounding battle, 49-34, with Gabby Elliott leading the way with a career-high matching 17 rebounds.

TWU and West Texas A&M remain the only two undefeated teams in LSC play at 10-0. The Pioneers will meet the Lady Buffs on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 1 p.m.

IMPACT PLAYERS
  • Elliott led the Pioneers with 20 points and 17 rebounds, recording her eighth double-double of the season. It marked her third straight game with 20 or more points. She went 8-of-16 from the field and 4-of-5 from the free throw line. Of her 17 rebounds, nine were offensive and eight were defensive. Elliott also added two blocks and one steal in the win.
  • Jada Celsur finished with 14 points and a season-high seven rebounds. She also grabbed four steals in the win.
  • Averee Kleinhans rounded out the double-digit scoring for the Pioneers, finishing the game with 14 points. She also added five rebounds, two assists and four steals.
  • Kayla Glover added eight points on 50% from the field, grabbed six rebounds (including four offensive boards), and dished out three assists.
PIONEER POWER MOMENTS
  • To start the first quarter, the Pioneers opened with an 8-0 scoring run. They held the Mustangs scoreless until the 5:45 mark in the quarter. On a last second layup by Celsur to close the quarter, TWU found their first double-digit lead of the game, 19-9, heading into the second quarter of action.
  • Kleinhans quickly extended the lead to 14 halfway through the second quarter. She connected on a layup and a three pointer to push TWU ahead, 28-14, with 4:50 remaining in the half. The Pioneers would lead by double-digits throughout the entirety of the second quarter. Their largest lead of the half would be 14, which they hit twice. After the 4:50 time mark, a free throw by Kleinhans would extend the lead back to 14, 37-23, with 1:03 left in the half. Elliott hit a last second layup to close the half and send TWU into the halftime break ahead by 12, 39-27.
  • TWU would continue to accelerate play in the third quarter, outscoring the Mustangs 17-10. The Pioneers held MSU scoreless for three minutes of action in the third and found their first 20-point lead of the night at the 1:16 mark, 51-31, off a Glover layup. After a quick MSU bucket, Jaylee Moss hit a layup off an assist by Celsur to push the lead back to 20, 53-33, with 46 seconds remaining in the quarter. Celsur closed the quarter with a successful and-one to send TWU into the final quarter of action up by 19, 56-37.
  • At 7:15 in the fourth quarter, TWU found their largest lead of the night after a jumper by Avery McConnell to put the Pioneers ahead by 23, 63-40. MSU ended the game with six made free throws, as the Pioneers claimed the win 66-55.

NEXT UP
The Pioneers game against Lubbock Christian, originally scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 24 at 2 p.m. has been postponed due to expected winter weather.

TWU will head on the road for their next game on January 29 at 6:30 p.m. CT at Eastern New Mexico. ENMU currently has two LSC losses on the season, as they fell to Lubbock Christian and West Texas A&M.
