PIONEERS HEAD TO TEMPLE FOR FIRST ROAD MEET OF THE SEASON

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (Jan. 22, 2026) – The Texas Woman's gymnastics team posted a strong start to their season in back-to-back meets at home. They look to keep the energy rolling, as they head on the road for their first away meet of the season. 

No. 27 TWU will meet Temple, George Washington and Penn on Friday, Jan. 23 at Temple at 5 p.m. CST. The Pioneers come into the meet as the only team in the Top 35.

MARCH-IN
  • A LOOK AT TEMPLE: The Owls are currently ranked 52nd. They have competed in three meets already this season - two on the road and one at home. Their season high came at their last meet at home against LIU, when Temple scored a 194.150. The Owls two highest event scores came on vault and floor with 48.750s on both events. On vault, Amelia Rudd and Nikki Rengifo led Temple with a pair of 9.825s. Then, on floor, Mariella Brueck and Rudd both posted 9.800s to lead the Owls. 
  • A LOOK AT GEORGE WASHINGTON: George Washington sits at 59th in the nation. They have competed in two meets this season - one away and one at home. Their season high score came on the road in their first meet of the season at Maryland. GW most recently scored a 191.375 at home on Jan. 18. Their topped ranked event is vault (41st in the nation). Alison Mun has scored the highest vault score of the season for GW, hitting a 9.875 in the meet at Maryland. 
  • A LOOK AT PENN: The Quakers have posted back-to-back 194's to start the season. Their season high, a 194.850, came in their opening meeting on the road against Bridgeport and Cornell. Penn's highest ranked event is vault, 34th. Jordan Barrow currently owns the highest score of the season for the Quakers on vault with a 9.850, which she scored on Jan. 11. 
  • HISTORY: The Pioneers have met Temple once in 2025 at a neutral site in Nebraska. TWU defeated Temple 195.975-194.550. TWU and George Washington have met three times, most recently in 2024 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The Pioneers are 0-3 against George Washington with their highest score being a 194.725. Against Penn, TWU is 1-1. In 2024, they met Penn twice, falling on the road and winning at home. Their highest score against Penn came on March 3, 2024 at home in Denton, as the Pioneers scored a 196.275.
  • TWU'S LAST MEET: No. 27 TWU continued their strong start last week at home in a Tri Meet against No. 12 Denver and No. 26 Arizona. The Pioneers closed the meet with a 195.275 to defeat Arizona for the first time in program history and score their highest score in a meet against Denver in program history. Denver posted the top score of the meet with a 195.850, and Arizona closed the meet with a 193.350. Dating back to last season, the Pioneers have now scored a 195.275 or higher in four straight meets for the first time since the 2024 season. It also marked the eighth straight meet TWU has scored at least one event score of a 49.000 or higher – the longest streak in program history. TWU's highest event score of the day came on floor with a 49.050. Out of the five floor competitors, Sophie Hernandez, the anchor, and Kyleigh Ghanbari, in the third spot, topped the TWU leader board with 9.875's to tie for second in the event.
