PIONEERS CLAIM FOURTH STRAIGHT LSC REGULAR SEASON TITLE WITH 68-56 WIN

DENTON, Texas (Feb. 26, 2026) - The Lone Star Conference proved to be a formidable challenge for Texas Woman's basketball all season, as well as the Texas A&M International Dustdevils tonight at Kitty Magee Arena. However, the top-ranked team was up to the task tonight as they had been all season, securing a 68-56 win and a fourth straight LSC regular season championship title.

TAMIU (12-13, 9-10) put up a tough challenge in the first half, battling with TWU (25-1, 19-0) in a tense second period to take a three-point deficit to the half. However, the Pioneer offense came alive in the third, outscoring the Dustdevils 25-12 en route to the win.

TWU shot 39% from the field, the ninth game below 40%. However, the home team still won this stat, with TAMIU shooting 30%. The Pioneers were also efficient when needed, shooting 46.2% from the field in the decisive third period.

The win is the Pioneers' ninth in a row against the Dustdevils and continues the win streak to 24 games.

IMPACT PLAYERS

  • Madi Lumsden led the Pioneers in scoring with a career-high 25 points, shooting 9 of 15 from the field, making 3 of 4 attempts from beyond the arc and making all four free throws. Defensively, Lumsden added five rebounds and one steal.

  • Gabby Elliott recorded 14 points in the win but was the key star defensively with 14 rebounds to match a season high and a pair of blocks. Elliott added five offensive rebounds for a total of 19, setting a new career high.

  • Jaylee Moss tallied 11 points in the game, making both free throw attempts and going 3 of 6 from beyond the arc, shooting 50% or above from 3-point range for the seventh time this season. The freshman added a pair of defensive rebounds as well.

PIONEER POWER MOMENTS

  • The Pioneers began the game's scoring with a layup by Lumsden a minute and a half in, but the game would be tied at 2 apiece shortly after. TWU responded with its longest scoring run of the game, a 13-0 rally to put them ahead 15-2 with two and a half minutes remaining. Foreshadowing what was to come in the ensuing period, TAMIU responded with a 6-2 run to make the score 17-8 heading into the second.

  • A trading of baskets took up much of the first half of the second period, with the Pioneers holding on to a double-digit lead through most of this time. The second half was all TAMIU, however, as its longest scoring streak of the game, a 10-0 rally, ended the scoring for the period, with TWU holding on to a 26-23 lead at the half. Of TWU's nine points in this period, Lumsden accounted for five, including a trey at the 7:45 mark.

  • Most of the third period was closely contested, with TWU hanging on to a single-digit lead. However, beginning with a pair of Lumsden free throws with just under four minutes left, the Pioneer offense unleashed a 13-0 scoring run, restoring the double-digit lead and making the score 51-33 with 1:27 remaining. The Dustdevils added a pair of free throws to close the period's scoring, but the mood of the game had already dramatically shifted, with TWU now taking a 51-35 lead into the final period of play.

  • More back-and-forth scoring dominated the game's final period, but TWU's explosive third-period performance had ensured its double-digit lead remained, as the Dustdevils were unable to cut the deficit to fewer than 12 points. After shooting 18.8% from the field in the second period, the Pioneers shot 46.2% in the third and fourth periods to cruise to the 68-56 win.
