DENTON, Texas (Feb. 7, 2026) – On Saturday afternoon, the Texas Woman's basketball team kept their winning streak rolling, as the Pioneers defeated their third ranked team of the season, besting No. 20 Lubbock Christian, in a 67-53 win.
Third-ranked TWU (20-1, 14-0) began the game with a 7-0 scoring run, but LCU (18-5, 10-4) later responded with a 6-0 run to keep the score within three; foreshadowing the grinding effort the game would become. The Pioneers, however, continue to excel in Lone Star Conference play, improving now to 14-0 while winning games by an average margin of 13 points.
The Lady Chaps accrued 18 fouls in the game, and the Pioneers took great advantage, making 15-of-16 free throw attempts for a season-high 93.9 percentage. Ball possession was key as well, with TWU tallying 40 total rebounds, their eighth game this season with at least as many.
Defense was once again a strong point for TWU, as they held LCU to just 53 points in the game -- the Lady Chaps second lowest point total in a game this season.
IMPACT PLAYERS
- While posting a season-high 38 minutes on the court, Gabby Elliott led the Pioneers with 18 points. Elliott added 14 total rebounds, shot 8-for-13 from the field, and made both free throw attempts. During the game, Elliott also officially eclipsed 1,000 career points.
- Madi Lumsden tallied 16 points in the win, her tenth double-digit scoring game this season. The junior sank a season best three treys on five attempts (tying the season best mark) and set another season high mark with two blocks.
- Kayla Glover recorded 10 points in the game, her second double-digit scoring game this season. Glover added a pair of rebounds, and set new season high marks with free throws attempted and made, sinking all six.
- Averee Kleinhans was strong on the boards in the win, finishing the game with nine total rebounds.
PIONEER POWER MOMENTS
- The game's first basket was made just twelve seconds after opening tip, with a layup by Elliott giving TWU the quick 2-0 lead. This would also be the start of a 7-0 scoring run, ending with the Lady Chaps first basket made with just under six minutes remaining. After a pair of Pioneer layups, LCU opened up a 6-0 run to shrink the TWU lead to three, making the score 11-8 at the 2:05 mark. A layup by Jordyn Hernandez with two seconds remaining closed the opening period's scoring, with the home team up 15-11.
- After LCU opened the second period with a free throw, TWU entered into another 7-0 run, with an Elliott layup giving the Pioneers their first double-digit lead of the game at 22-12 with just over two minutes gone by. TWU recorded a 6-0 run later in the period, extending their lead by as much as 12. The Lady Chaps, however, scored four straight to close the first half, sending the Pioneers to halftime with a 30-22 lead.
- The first basket of the third period was made about 40 seconds in, an Elliott tip in regained the 10 point lead for the Pioneers at 32-22. TWU would lose then regain this margin two more times through the third, but most of this period was played with both teams tightening up on defense, with neither side managing more than five straight points. Three straight free throws by the Lady Chaps ended the third period's scoring, with the Pioneers taking a 47-41 lead to the fourth.
- The final period's scoring began with 8:27 on the clock, as Lumsden, fouled attempting a three pointer, sank all three free throws to give TWU a 50-41 lead. After more of a defensive battle, the Pioneers regained the 10-point lead with an Elliott layup with under a minute remaining in the game. TWU would end the game with a 6-0 run, with four straight Glover free throws rounding out the scoring. TWU earned the 67-53 win after scoring the first basket and retaining the lead throughout, the sixth game this season the Pioneers achieved this feat.
