DENTON, Texas (Dec. 3, 2022) - Texas Woman's wrestling defeated Schreiner University 25-23 in Kitty Magee Arena on Saturday night to mark their first home win.
KMA was host to two opponents, Schreiner University and Colorado Mesa for their first tri-dual of the inaugural season.
First to the mat were the Mountaineers against the Pioneers. Mercedes Nerios won her first match of the night in a fall over Jaia Ashley. Kira Phillips took out her competition with 29 seconds left on the clock resulting in a fall against Mackayla Rosales. Three more Pioneers scored big against the Mountaineers including Poorna Babu, Shean'areial Miller, and Aubrey Yauger.
In their second dual of the night against familiar foe Colorado Mesa the Pioneers fell 36-8.
Miller dominated her opponent Melena Jones giving Miller her second win in KMA this season.
Yauger was amped by the energy in KMA and proved herself again by defeating Jayleen Sekona. The match ended with a 4-3 decision in favor of Yauger. This marks Yaugers third triumph over Sekona this season.
Although 2022 is coming to a close the Pioneers will be back in action after the holiday season in Hasting, Nebraska for the Bronco Open taking place Jan. 8 at 9 a.m.
