FORK UNION, Virginia (March 1, 2022) – As a first-year team, the Texas Woman's artistic swimming team continues to pursue a foundation of success every chance they dive into competition.

On February 26, 2022, TWU traveled to Fork Union, Virginia and competed in the South Regional Championships against the University of Richmond, College of William and Mary, University of Florida and the University of Incarnate Word.

The Pioneers competed in every event and continued to improve their mental strength, performance confidence and overall skills.

"The athletes did a fantastic job this weekend at South Regionals," TWU head coach Sara Lilly said. "We knew this would be a competition we would need to work through, so we focused on our mental performance and approaching routines in a calmer manner."

In the technical element portion, the Pioneers competed in A routines and B routines. Ashley Latchford swam in the A element, while Maribella Falconer, Anaya Kashikar, Laura Klein, Haiden Long and Regina Ramirez competed in the B elements.

Ramirez recorded her first collegiate win in the B element event, scoring a 70.9796 to lead the Pioneers.

Latchford competed for TWU in the solo and duet events, swimming with teammate Maribella Falconer. In the trio event, the team of Kashikar, Klein and Ramirez competed. The day culminated with the team event in which all six Pioneers swam. In all events, the Pioneers continued to raise the bar and showcase their growth in the pool.

"The athletes did a fantastic job focusing on the goals we set, and I am very proud of the progress we made," Lilly said. "I believe this was a great step in our training for the Collegiate National Championships at the end of this month."

Out of the five teams, TWU finished in third place.

Also during the weekend, Kashikar was named the new Junior Representative for the South Regional Collegiate Zone. Kashikar will serve as the Regions "voice" representing them at the national conference.

The Pioneers will travel to San Antonio, Texas this weekend to compete in a dual meet against the University of Incarnate Word on Saturday, March 5 in preparation for Collegiate Nationals, which begin on March 25.
