DENTON, Texas (Jan. 25, 2023) – After a career-high performance at the Texas Woman's gymnastics home opener on Jan. 20,
Alix Pierce's floor routine was named the Midwest Independent Conference Performance of the Week.
Pierce, a senior from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, has been a staple on balance beam and floor for the Pioneers. During this season, Pierce has competed on the two events in all three of the Pioneers' meets.
On Friday, Jan. 20, TWU hosted their 2023 home opener against Wisconsin – Eau Claire, Centenary and Air Force. The Pioneers posted a season-high 194.1500 to win the meet.
Performing in the sixth spot on floor, Pierce hit the routine beautifully. After the last skill, Pierce was greeted by joyous cheers from the TWU teammates and fans, which erupted even louder when the score of a 9.900 was flashed.
The 9.9000 represented a career-high for Pierce, breaking their former career-high of a 9.875, which was set at the MIC Championships on March 18, 2022. Pierce also broke their former season high, which was set at the Arizona Meet on Jan. 14, 2023, of a 9.775, and recorded their first event win of the season.
"Alix has been extremely intentional on working in the gym these past few weeks," TWU Head Coach
Lisa Bowerman said, "and has a visible desire to improve on every detail of the routines. It was so rewarding to see that work begin to pay off in the floor performance on Friday night."
Pierce and the Pioneers will go on the road for their next two meets. They will compete at Southeast Missouri on Friday, Jan. 27 and Lindenwood on Sunday, Jan. 29.
