DENTON, Texas (Jan. 5, 2023) - In their first dual meet and tournament after the holiday break, TWU Wrestling travels to Hastings, Nebraska from Jan. 7 to Jan. 8.
On Saturday, Jan. 7 at 6 p.m. the Pioneers will face off against Hastings College and Friends University in a dual. Followed by the Bronco Open on Sunday, Jan. 8 at 9 a.m.
In their last matchup against Schreiner University and Colorado Mesa, the Pioneers defeated Schreiner 25-23, but fell to Colorado Mesa 36-8. Five Pioneers recorded points against Schreiner including Mercedes Nerios, Kira Phillips, Poorna Babu, Shean'areial Miller, and Aubrey Yauger.
Before the holiday break, the Broncos competed in a tri-dual that resulted in a fall to Chadron State and a defeat over Minot State. On Nov. 10, the Broncos rose victorious over the Falcons in a dual meet.
The Falcons are coming off a historic championship win in their last performance at the Doane Open. Bailee Nelson of the 155 weight class and Gianna Moreno weighing in at 136 both won their respective weight class.
This will be the first time the Pioneers are facing off in a dual against both the Broncos and the Falcons.
The Pioneers have made incredible strides this season, appearing in the National Wrestling Coaches Association NCAA Women's Coaches Rankings for the first time at No. 13. Since then, the Pioneers have steadily made their way to No. 11 on Jan 3.
Yauger has remained solid in her performance and has been ranked #2 in the 191 weight class for three consecutive months.
