DENTON, Texas (Nov. 12, 2025) – It was a winning Wednesday in Kitty Magee Arena for the Texas Woman's wrestling team.
TWU (1-1, 0-1) faced Tarleton State and McMurry State College, walking away with two match wins. Since Tarleton State is a club team, the win will not be credited to the Pioneers overall record. Nevertheless, TWU set a strong tone in their home opener.

Randi Miller said. "It's rewarding to see their effort paying off, and there's plenty for us to build on moving forward."
The Pioneers opened the night with a dual against McMurry, winning the dual 30-11.
Alexa Rodriguez opened the night with a win for the home team at weight class 103. She recorded 10 points in 45 seconds to record the technical fall and start the Pioneers off with four team points.
At weight class 124,
Brooke Zejda scored 10 points in one minute and 10 seconds to win by technical fall and increase the Pioneers lead to 8-5.
After two wins by technical fall for the Pioneers,
Gigi Donald battled it out at weight class 131 to win by decision 10-4.
The next win for TWU would come at weight class 145, as
Maegan Flaherty scored 10 points to win by technical fall. TWU would get 15 points from forfeits at 160, 180 and 207, as the Pioneers claimed the win over McMurry 30-11.
Following the first victory, the Pioneers met Tarleton State. A forfeit by the Texans at 103 put TWU ahead early 5-0.
TWU's first bout win of the night came at weight class 124, as Zejda recorded her second bout win of the night. She won by fall in four minutes and two seconds.
In similar fashion,
Laisha Rios won her bout by fall at weight class 131 to put TWU back ahead by five, 15-5.
At weight class 145, Flaherty was defeated in decision, but she scored in the bout, giving TWU one point, as the score was 18-16 – TWU trailed by two.
Samaria Barnett, at weight class 180, ended her bout with a five point move to win by technical fall, 16-2, and bringing TWU within three 23-20.
Kitana Leofatato had the final word for the Pioneers. She closed the dual with a fall to record the winning five points for TWU, as the Pioneers claimed the win, 25-23.
TWU will be back in action on Nov. 21-22 at the Missouri Valley Open.
