DENTON, Texas (Oct. 20, 2023) - The second stop of the last road trip of the regular season for the Texas Woman's soccer team is Canyon, Texas as they play West Texas A&M on an afternoon match on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 5 p.m.

TWU (10-1-3, 5-1-2), who earned three points on the road last Sunday against UTPB with a 1-0 victory, will continue their on the road games against WT (1-6-5, 0-4-3) tomorrow night, and UT Tyler on Wednesday night.

West Texas is currently 12th in the Lone Star Conference standings, and they are one of three teams in the conference that have not clinched a win yet. Their last LSC match against Angelo State on Wednesday night ended in a 4-0 victory for the Rambelles.

ON THE ROAD

A LOOK AT THE TEAMS:

  • A LOOK AT THE LADY BUFFS: WT was voted to finish third in the LSC preseason poll, but they have not had the season they hoped for. They sit only above Eastern New Mexico with five conference matches left. The Lady Buffs have only been able to score eight goals in 12 games played. They lost to Dallas Baptist 2-0 on Oct. 7, and have not faced the Pioneers or St. Mary's, who sit first and second in the LSC standings. WT leads the series between these two teams 18-9-4.

  • PROUDPIONEERS: TWU looks to solidify themselves at the top of the LSC standings as they only have three conference games left of the regular season after facing the Lady Buffs. Alyssa Striker leads the Pioneers with 10 points on four goals and two assists. Amanda Farris has consistently been one of the best goalkeepers of the LSC and the Nation this season. She currently records a .932 save percentage and a .22 goals against average. The Pioneers will look to score early and often against WT. TWU's defensive back line has done a phenomenal job this season minimizing their opponents opportunities, and Farris has been consistent on goal. The Pioneers have only allowed three goals in 14 matches so far. Another shutout game will keep them among the best teams in the NCAA Division II in goals against average. In 2021, the Pioneers went to the half time losing 4-1 to WT, and they scored four goals in less than 25 minutes, which gave them the victory in Canyon, Texas. Last year, their encounter ended in a scoreless tie in Denton, Texas.
