DENTON, Texas (Dec. 7, 2023) - Kira Phillips, Poorna Babu and Nari Miller gave the Texas Woman's wrestling team its second Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference win of the season at the tri-dual in Alamosa, Colo.
The Pioneers traveled to Colorado to face No. 4 Colorado Mesa and Adams State in their first ever RMAC tri-dual.
Babu was the only Pioneer to defeat her opponents in both bouts tonight. The sophomore wrestled in the 143 weight class against both schools and took home nine team points for the Pioneers.
Against Valerie Glenn from Colorado Mesa, Babu had a rough start. Glen was able to score four points in the first minute, but Babu recorded a fall 1:43 seconds into the match. In the match against Adams State, the Lewisville native wrestled Madison Sego. Babu was up (11-6) before taking Sego down with a fall.
TWU fell to CMU 44-4. Ten of those points were for forfeit in the 101 and 116 weight classes.
Phillips, who also wrestled against ASU and CMU, earned three points for the Pioneers against ASU by taking down Brianna Johnson by tech fall.
Sloane Stewart (109), Hannah Vos (170) and Faith Perez (191) both received a bye in their respective weight classes and added 15 points to the team's count.
Miller earned the last four points for the Pioneers in the 155 weight class. After scoring ten points in the match up and not giving away any points to her opponent Miranda Sanchez from ASU, Miller took Sanchez down by tech fall.
TWU defeated ASU 28-13 in their first ever dual.
This marks the Pioneers last competition of the year. TWU will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 6 when they visit Hastings, Neb. to take on Hastings and attend the Hastings tournament.
