BRING THE PIONEER ENERGY
- SCORING THREATS: The Patriots currently have three players who average in double figures: No. 1 guard Destini Whitehead (12.9), No. 13 guard Tina Machalova (12.2) and No. 15 Lovisa Hevinder (10.1). As a team, the Patriots average 42.5% from the field and 32.7% from the three point line per game. UT Tyler averages 66.7 points per game and holds their opponent to an average of 58.1 points per game. In their last game, the Patriots defeated Angelo State despite poor shooting. Their leading scorer was No. 5 Meagan Mendazoza with 17 points. They scored 20 points in the paint, 10 second chance points and 12 points off turnovers.
- A LOOK BACK: Last season, the Pioneers defeated UT Tyler twice in the regular season, before falling to them in a third meeting at the LSC Tournament. The Pioneers are 3-1 all-time against UT Tyler. The last time the two teams met in KMA was on Dec. 20, 2021, and the Pioneers defeated the Patriots with just seven active players, 61-49. In that game, Ashley Ingram led the Pioneers with 21 points and 15 rebounds.
- KEY POINTS: In UT Tyler's last loss to UT Permian Basin on Feb. 16, the Patriots shot just 25% from the three point line and gave up 11 turnovers for 16 UTPB points. The Pioneers will need to force the Patriots into low percentage shots and play lock down defense. Additionally, the Pioneers will have to take care of the ball on offense by breaking the press and moving the ball for the best shot selection.
