CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (March 16, 2023) – Conference Championship season is officially here for Texas Woman's gymnastics, as the Pioneers are set to compete in the Midwest Independent Conference Championship on Friday night.
TWU, who has claimed the MIC Title three times and are the reigning champions, look to repeat as conference champions tomorrow night at 5 p.m. in Houck Field House at Southeast Missouri State.
The Pioneers will meet Centenary, Lindenwood, Illinois State and SEMO in the conference championship. They have met each team already once this season, except for Illinois State.
TWU will compete for the second time this season in Houck Field House, previously competing there on Jan. 27.
The rotation order for the championship meet will be drawn at the conference banquet on Friday night and will be announced then.

EYES ON THE PRIZE
- LAST MEET: Most recently, the Pioneers competed at home in Kitty Magee Arena and scored a 195.575. TWU was headlined by Steelie King, who was named the MIC Gymnast of the Week for the first time in her career. King competed in all-around for the second time of her career and scored a 9.725 or higher in every event to finish with a career-high 39.125. On vault, the Pioneers were led by Daisy Woodring with a 9.900. Maddie Griffith led the Pioneers on bars with a 9.850. On beam, Madeline Gose led TWU with a 9.800, and Woodring led the Pioneers on floor with a 9.850.
- MIC TOP SCORES: Host SEMO hit a program and season-high on Jan. 27 against TWU at home, scoring a 196.175. Lindenwood also hit the 196 mark this season—it came on Jan. 20 at the Tennessee Collegiate Classic, where the Lions scored a 196.175. Illinois State has a season-high of 195.850, but they average the highest score at 194.517. Centenary achieved their season-high score of a 192.475 on March 11 against Lindenwood. The Pioneers hit their season-high of 195.650 on March 4 at the Rose City Classic.
- CLOSER LOOK AT TWU: Alix Pierce will look to defend their MIC floor champion title this year, after winning the event last year with a 9.875. Steelie King will look to defend her event title on beam from last season as well. The Pioneers currently rank 57th in the nation: 49th on vault, 60th on bars, 55th on beam and 52nd on floor. The Pioneers currently have the fourth highest NQS in the MIC, a 194.825. They have the second highest NQS on vault in the MIC, a 48.845, the highest on beam, a 48.750, and the third highest on floor, a 48.935. The Pioneers have been trending upward in the second half of the season, and they will look to continue to ride their momentum to their fourth conference championship.
