DENTON, Texas (July 6, 2023) – The Texas Woman's soccer program aims to continue to elevate their success and be a contender in the Lone Star Conference- a task which will begin in just 56 days, as the Pioneers announced their 2023 regular season schedule on Thursday.
"We're excited about our fall schedule," TWU Head Coach Babak Abouzar said. "We play some quality schools from the Great American Conference (GAC) who we are very familiar with, as well as a new opponent who we've never played in Missouri Southern State. These non-conference games will get us battle-tested for the always competitive Lone Star Conference (LSC)."
As Abouzar stated, the Pioneers open the season at home at Pioneer Soccer Park against new opponent, Missouri Southern State, on Thursday, Aug. 31 at 7 p.m. They will remain at home for their second game of the season on Tuesday, Sept. 5 at 7 p.m. against GAC opponent East Central, whom the Pioneers are 8-5-1 against all-time. On Sept. 5, the Pioneers will also be hosting Youth Soccer Night, where they will invite previous campers and other local youth soccer players to attend the game, join the Pioneers during the pregame walkout and play on the field at halftime.
Following their two-game home stand, the Pioneers will go on the road for a non-conference match against Oklahoma Baptist (OBU) on Saturday, September 16. TWU won their most recent road match-up with the Bison in 2019, 1-0, but fell last year at home against OBU 2-0.
TWU then returns home for a meeting with non-conference opponent Southern Nazarene on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 1 p.m. This day also marks Pioneer Family Fun Day at Pioneer Soccer Park. In partnership with the TWU CARE Office, the Pioneers will welcome student parents and their children for fun prior to the game, events on the field during halftime and the opportunity to join the Pioneers during their pregame walkout.
The Pioneers close out their non-conference schedule with two games on the road: Thursday, Sept. 14 against Harding and Saturday, Sept. 16 against Ouachita Baptist.
Then, TWU begins LSC action on the road against Midwestern State on Wednesday, Sept. 20.
Back at home at Pioneer Soccer Park, the Pioneers face St. Edward's on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 1 p.m., as they look to make their home winning streak against the Hilltoppers 3-0.
They continue LSC action at home on Wednesday, Sept. 27 against Oklahoma Christian, during which they will honor Faculty and Staff prior to the game.
The next two conference matches will take the Pioneers on the road. They will travel to Laredo, Texas to take on Texas A&M International on Saturday, Sept. 30. Then, on Wednesday, Oct. 4, they will begin the month of October in Portales, N.M. against Eastern New Mexico.
For their next set of matches, TWU returns to Denton for a two-game home stand. On Saturday, Oct. 7, St. Mary's comes to town on TWU Family Weekend. The day will also mark Alumni and Senior Day, as the Pioneers honor their alumni and seniors during the game. The Pioneers will face the Rattlers at 1 p.m. Following the game, the Pioneers will honor their two seniors: Abby Daniels and Emily Turner.
The home stand continues with TWU hosting Dallas Baptist on Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m., during which they will be celebrating Hispanic Heritage Night.
The Pioneers will go on the road for three straight LSC matches—Saturday, Oct. 14 against UT Permian Basin, Saturday, Oct. 21 against West Texas A&M and Wednesday, Oct. 25 against UT Tyler.
TWU will close the regular season with two games at home.
On Saturday, Oct. 28, the Pioneers welcome Lubbock Christian for their Kick for a Cure game to honor Breast Cancer Awareness. Prior to the game, TWU will auction off pink jerseys to raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness.
Finally, on Friday, Nov. 3, TWU will play their final game of the regular season against Angelo State at Pioneer Soccer Park at 1 p.m.
The LSC Tournament First Round will kick off postseason play on Tuesday, Nov. 7.
"We look forward to having you bring the energy this fall at Pioneer Soccer Park," Abouzar said.
