MARIVI ESCALONA NAMED SPORTS INFORMATION DIRECTOR

DENTON, Texas (Sept. 7, 2023) – The Texas Woman's Athletic Department announced the hiring of Marivi Escalona as the Pioneers' Sports Information Director on Thursday.

"I am super excited to be part of the Texas Woman's Athletic Department and start a new adventure," Escalona said. "I am eager to learn and grow in other areas of my career and be the voice that highlights our amazing student-athletes' journeys. As an ex-collegiate athlete myself, I understand the importance of the role and the impact it can make on our student-athletes and athletic programs."

Escalona pursued her undergraduate degree at Lindenwood University, while also competing for the Synchronized Swimming Team. While swimming with the Lindenwood Lions, Escalona served as the co-captain and captain of the team for two straight seasons during her junior and senior years.

During her pursuit of her undergraduate Mass Communication degree, Escalona worked as a sports photographer and a soccer sports commentator at Lindenwood. She additionally worked with the campus news website to write articles and cover the Lindenwood Lions athletic teams. Escalona also gained experience by working as a Social Media Content Creator for Ciudad Vinotinto, a soccer club, in Lechería, AZ. Venezuela, where Escalona is from.

With Ciudad Vinotinto, she photographed and filmed soccer matches to provide social media content for posting. Escalona additionally worked with the game-day staff to produce a successful event.
Escalona also managed the social media for the Lindenwood Synchronized Swimming Team during her senior season, including creating a marketing calendar, editing videos and creating graphics.

After graduating with honors in 2019 with her Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication with a minor in Sports Broadcasting and an emphasis in Sports Information and Media Management, Escalona worked as an Assistant Coach for Scottsdale Synchro in Scottsdale, Ariz. for two years. She choreographed routines and planned trainings for the 12&U competition team and the 13-15 intermediate team.

Most recently, Escalona served as the Operational Head Coach for Houston SynchroStars in Houston, Texas. Not only did Escalona lead the team, create choreography and run trainings, she also was in charge of all administrative duties, overseeing facility rental, fundraising, apparel, payroll and membership communication.

"Marivi's experience in athletic communication and coaching provides her a unique and well-rounded perspective to excel in the Sports Information Director role," TWU Assistant Athletic Director for Communications Morgan Lair said. "In her previous roles, she has led with empowerment of others, and I know she will assist our department in successfully sharing the story of our student-athletes."
