DENTON, Texas (Sept. 25, 2025) – On Thursday, the Texas Woman's Athletic Department and Executive Director of Athletics Sandee Mott announced the hiring of Ashton Middleton-Brown as the Pioneers Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and Academic Services.

"I am thrilled to welcome Ashton to our team," Mott said. "With a broad-based background in higher education, a true passion for student success and a strong interest in athletics, she brings a unique perspective that will enhance our program and benefit our student-athletes in meaningful ways. Her familiarity with TWU is an added advantage that will allow her to make an immediate impact and seamlessly integrate into our department."

Middleton-Brown most recently served as the Coordinator in Civility and Community Standards and Investigator. Working in this role for the past year, Middleton-Brown investigated alleged violations concerning TWU's Code of Conduct process, assisted in cases regarding misconduct of any kind at TWU, stayed current on all federal, state and university policies, provided case documentation and assisted as a presenting party or appointed advisors in cases. Furthermore, Middleton-Brown collaborated with TWU departments and student groups to provide programming and education on topics such as civility, hazing, academic integrity, drug, alcohol and Title IX. She also participated and represented TWU at local and national conferences, trainings and on professional committees.

"I'm truly excited to begin this new role as Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and Academic Services at Texas Woman's," Middleton-Brown said. "My years of experience at TWU in student services, compliance and academic support have prepared me to help our student-athletes succeed both in the classroom and in competition. In this position, I hope to strengthen resources that support academic achievement while ensuring we meet the highest standards of integrity and compliance. Most of all, I look forward to contributing to TWU's mission of empowering students to reach their full potential."

Along with working in a compliance role in Civility and Community Standards, Middleton-Brown has been employed in various capacities at TWU related to student services and academic support since October 2020.

Middleton-Brown began her time at TWU working as the College of Nursing Senior Secretary, where she worked for one year. In this role, Middleton-Brown supported the Nursing department in a variety of manners, including making appointments, compiling reports, editing course catalogs, supervising student workers and providing assistance to assistant deans within the department.

Following her year in this role, Middleton-Brown was named the College of Nursing Interim Assistant to the Dean. During her time as the Interim Assistant, she handled all scheduling for the Dean, assisted in nursing department search committees, handled purchase orders and provided secretarial assistance to the assistant deans.

In August 2021, Middleton-Brown continued in the nursing department in a new role as an Academic Advisor I. In this role, she provided support to students within the nursing department by guiding them in academic planning, using university resources, analyzing degree plans, reviewing academic records and ensuring students graduated and met their goals.

Following her stint as an Academic Advisor, Middleton-Brown was named the Manager of Nursing Student Services, a role she served in for three years before moving to the Department of Civility and Community Standards.

As the Manager of Student Services, Middleton-Brown led and oversaw all day-to-day operations of the Nursing Student Services Department. She provided expertise in planning and supervising all academic support operations across the TWU system for nursing, and she provided leadership to ensure compliance across the department and ensured all job standards were met, while also participating in search committees and hiring within the nursing department.

Throughout her time in the nursing department, Middleton-Brown also served as a UNIV 1231 Instructor, a one-hour weekly course which teaches freshman students skills and resources to be successful in their collegiate journey at TWU, for three semesters.

Prior to coming to work at TWU in October 2020, Middleton-Brown worked for three years as an Education Investigator for the Arkansas Department of Education. In this role, she investigated educators and student interns for potential violations of the Arkansas Educators Code of Ethics. Additionally, she investigated ethics complaints, prepared and maintained case files, compiled data on all cases, conducted interviews, prepared final reports for investigations and presented cases to the Professional License Standards Board. Outside of case management and investigation, Middleton-Brown also provided ethics training to school districts, universities and co-ops and helped train new investigators. 

From 2014-17, she served as a Child Care Specialist with the Arkansas Department of Human Services. During this time, she inspected existing and proposed child care facilities to ensure compliance, investigated licensure complaints, abuse or neglect and prepared case files for a monthly report. Middleton-Brown also provided training for child care centers to ensure proper understanding of laws and regulations, and she conducted workshops to provide technical assistance to all facility operators. 

Her first role came in 2011 as a Program Eligibility Specialist with the Arkansas Department of Human Services, where she worked for three years. In this role, Middleton-Brown determined eligibility and processed applications for government assistance, acted as a liaison for other provides within the agency and in the community, addressed customer complaints and monitored government assistance programs. 

Middleton-Brown graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Addiction Studies from the University of Central Arkansas in 2010. Then, in 2018, she graduated with her Master of Science in College Student Personnel Services from Arkansas State University – Jonesboro. Middleton-Brown is currently pursuing her doctorate degree in Education Leadership Organization from TWU.

She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Additionally, at TWU, she serves as a member of TWU's Staff Council and TWU's Black Faculty and Staff Affinity Group, in which she serves as the Co-VP of Engagement.

Middleton-Brown has a passion for serving students both in her role and within the greater TWU Community as a whole. During her time at TWU, she has worked as a Groceries to Go Volunteer, Commencement Volunteer, Block Party Volunteer, Distinguished Scholar Review Team Member, Strategic Plan Design Team Member, Athletic Council Member and Parking Committee Member.

Within her new role in Athletics, Middleton-Brown's expertise in student advising, compliance matters and overall passion for service will allow her to have a positive impact on the department and its success.
