SHREVEPORT, La. (Jan. 21, 2024) – On Sunday afternoon, the Texas Woman's gymnastics team recorded their 32nd straight win against the Centenary Ladies.
In the dual meet, the Pioneers won all four event titles.
Kaitlyn Hoiland claimed the vault title, matching her career high of a 9.800 on the event. On bars,
Brooke Ferrari recorded a meet high 9.750.
Madeline Gose claimed the beam and floor event titles – a 9.725 on beam and matched her season high with a 9.775 on floor. Additionally,
Sophie Hernandez tied Gose for the floor title, scoring a career high 9.775.
During the meet, TWU and Centenary competed for a cause at Centenary's Cancer Awareness Meet. Each gymnast wore a ribbon in honor of a friend or family member who has been affected by cancer. During march-ins, each gymnast was announced along with who they were competing in honor of during the meet.
The Pioneers started out the meet on the uneven bars and were led by Ferrari's 9.750. Hoiland, who competed in the anchor spot for the Pioneers, posted the second highest score of the meet with a 9.725. In the second spot,
Kami Zarlengo represented the third highest counting score for TWU and third highest score of the meet, hitting a 9.700. TWU finished with an event score of 47.325 on the bars to open their second meet of the season.
In their second rotation, the Pioneers moved over to vault, where they scored a season high 48.725. Hoiland continued to lead the vault rotation for TWU, scoring a 9.800 in the anchor position. Reigning Midwest Independent Conference Newcomer of the Week,
Caroline Bowns scored a career high 9.775.
Daisy Woodring added a season high 9.750, and
Sophia Isbell competed in her collegiate debut for the Pioneers and scored a career high 9.725 in the first meet of her freshman season. Finally on vault,
Steelie King and
Emily Six both scored a 9.675 to round out the vault lineup for TWU.
TWU rotated over to floor for the third rotation, matching their team score from vault with a 48.725 – also marking a season high for the Pioneers. Gose and Hernandez topped the floor leader board, as five Pioneers scored a 9.700 or higher in the event. Zarlengo matched her career high on floor and scored a season high 9.750. Raising her career high from last week was Six, who scored a 9.725. In her second meet of her freshman campaign,
Sofia Steffan scored a career high on floor with a 9.700 to bookend the top five scores on floor for TWU.
The final rotation of the meet for the Pioneers was the balance beam, where they scored a 47.675. Gose balanced her way to an event title with a 9.725. Tying for second was the pair of Bowns and Woodring, who both scored a 9.650. The score marked a season high for Woodring; furthermore, it also marked the first time competing beam collegiately for Bowns, as the 9.650 marked a season high and career high.
TWU won their second meet with a final score of 192.450, while Centenary finished with a 184.150.
Up next, the Pioneers will compete in their home opener for their third meet of the season. They will host Lindenwood on Saturday, Jan. 27 in Kitty Magee Arena at 6 p.m.
