SILVER CITY, N.M. (Dec. 17, 2024) – Ahead of the holiday season, the Texas Woman's basketball team heads on the road for a Tuesday night meeting with Western New Mexico.

TWU (9-1, 2-1) had last week off for Finals. In their last game on Dec. 6 against No. 2/4 Lubbock Christian, the Pioneers defeated the Lady Chaps, 58-40. WNMU (0-7, 0-4) last played on Saturday, Dec. 14 in a Lone Star Conference matchup with UT Tyler. The Mustangs fell, 88-53.

The Pioneers will meet the Mustangs for the 11th time, with the Pioneers owning the all-time record of 10-1 against WNMU. TWU is undefeated on the road against WNMU. They last played the Mustangs in Silver City, N.M. during the 2022 season – TWU claimed the win 56-53.

• DEFENSE WINS GAMES: The Pioneers rank third in defense in the LSC, holding their opponents to an average of 53.2 points per game. Over the course of the season, they have held teams under 10 points in a quarter nine times. The Pioneers have held their opponent to under 50 points for two straight games. Most recently, TWU forced LCU to turn the ball over 29 times, which translated to 17 points for the Pioneers. On average, TWU force their opponent to turn the ball over 18.2 times per game.
• STRONG OFFENSE: TWU currently ranks fourth in the LSC in field goal percentage, shooting 43.3% on the season. Scout Huffman currently leads the Pioneers from the field, as she averages 51.9% from the field. The Pioneers highest field goal percentage of the season came against Central Oklahoma on Nov. 27, and TWU shot 55.7% from the floor. Currently, WNMU is allowing their opponents to shoot 45.4% from the field.
• SHARE THE WEALTH: When the Pioneers recorded 15 or more assists in a game, they are 5-0. Assists are key to the distribution of success, so the Pioneers can continue to capitalize on their strength of depth. As a team, TWU averages 13.8 assists per game. Ashley Ingram currently leads TWU with 30 assists on the season.
