DENTON, Texas (Feb. 19, 2024) – The Texas Woman's gymnastics team started the week on a great note at the quad meet against Arizona, Arkansas and Alabama and recorded their highest team score of the 2024 season.
TWU started out the night on vault and finished up on floor to record a season high team score of 195.725.
Kaitlyn Hoiland led the Pioneers on vault with a 9.875, a score that ties her season and career high score on this event. Hoiland recorded a 9.875 against Lindenwood on Jan. 27. Steelie King collected a season high score of 9.850 and tied her career high. Emma Brkljacic and Daisy Woodring both scored solids 9.800 for the Pioneers. A 9.725 from Sophia Isbell and a 9.700 from Emily Six completed the top six scores for TWU in the first rotation. Six's 9.7 sets a new season high for the senior, and it was also the second highest score on vault of the meet. The Pioneers opened the meet with a season high of 49.050, only .125 points away from their program record (49.175).
TWU moved to the uneven bars for their second rotation of the afternoon, where they recorded a 48.700.
Leading the Pioneers on bars was Brooke Ferrari, who matched her season high score of 9.800, which she recorded against Missouri. The freshman Caroline Bowns was the second highest score for the Pioneers with a 9.775. Kami Zarlengo and Hoiland scored a solid 9.7500 and 9.7250 respectively. Lainey Hunt had a career high performance in bars and recorded a 9.650 for the Pioneers. Finishing up the top six scores on bars for TWU was King with a 9.6250.
On the third rotation, the Pioneers displayed their skills on the balance beam scoring 48.625.
Six opened up for the Pioneers and led the way with her second season high score of the night with a 9.8250. King matched her season high score on bars with a 9.7750. Brkljacic followed King with the third highest score for the Pioneers with a 9.750. Sophie Hernandez, who performed for the Pioneers on beam and floor, recorded a 9.6750. Woodring finished the top six scores for the Pioneers on beam with a 9.600.
For TWU's final rotation, the Pioneers moved over to the floor exercise and scored an amazing 49.350. This marks the third week in a row that the Pioneers score above 49 on floor.
A pair of 9.900 from Woodring and Hernandez, who performed electric routines and got the crowd on their feet, were the top scores for the Pioneers on floor. King kept the energy high on KMA with her 9.875 performance and recorded a season high on floor this afternoon. Madeline Gose also recorded a season high on floor with a 9.850. Six finished the top five scores for the Pioneers in this event with a 9.8250.
Alabama claimed the win in KMA with a 197.675, while Arakansa came in close second scoring 197.375. Arizona took third with a 196.950.
"Today was another step in the right direction for our team," TWU Head Coach Lisa Bowerman said. "The team continues to strive for more each and every meet, and it's fun seeing the results of that effort paying off in competition. The environment today in KMA was electric! We are extremely grateful to all of the fans who came out to support us today."
TWU will be back on the floor this Friday, Feb. 23 at the Utah State Quad Meet hosted by Utah State and with the attendance of Boise State and Iowa State. The quad is set to start at 7:00 p.m. local time and 8:00 p.m. central time. The Pioneers will be back at KMA to host Oklahoma, Clemson, and Pennsylvania at the second TWU quad meet on March 3 at 2:00 p.m.
