NORMAN, Okla. (Feb. 9, 2024) – On Friday night, the Texas Woman's gymnastics team traveled north to Norman, Okla. to compete in a quad meet hosted by the University of Oklahoma.

The quad meet featured TWU, OU, BYU and Utah State. TWU started out the night on beam and finished up on bars to record a team score of 194.575.

In their first rotation, Emma Brkljacic returned to the beam lineup and lead the Pioneers with a 9.775 to tie her season high. In the fifth spot for TWU, Steelie King balanced her way to a 9.650. Madeline Gose followed King in the anchor spot and scored a 9.6250. A pair of 9.6's from Sophie Hernandez and Daisy Woodring rounded out the top five scores for TWU, as they opened the meet with a 48.250 on the balance beam.

TWU rotated over to floor for the second rotation, where they brought their fantastic floor energy from last meet. After breaking the floor program record last week, TWU recorded a team total of 49.200 on floor to post back-to-back 49.000's on the event.

Leading the Pioneers on floor was Hernandez, who recorded her second score of a 9.9 or higher with her 9.925, which tied for fifth overall in the event. Gose kept the floor energy high with her season high 9.850. In the lead-off spot for TWU, Emily Six ignited the floor flame with her career high 9.850. King matched her career high for the fifth time of a 9.800. Finally, continuing her strong freshman campaign, Sofia Steffan scored a career high 9.775 to help guide TWU to a 49.200 – their highest event score of the night.

Following their rotation on floor, the Pioneers moved over to vault for the third rotation and scored a 48.900. Woodring topped the Pioneers' leader board with a season high 9.825. King posted TWU's second highest score and a season high mark of 9.800. In the second sport for the Pioneers, Brkljacic remained consistent, matching her beam score on vault with a 9.775. Kaitlyn Hoiland and Sophia Isbell both scored 9.750's to round out the counting scores for TWU.

For their final rotation, the Pioneers competed on the uneven bars. Hoiland topped the Pioneers' leader board in the anchor spot with a 9.775. Caroline Bowns and Brooke Ferrari each displayed strong routines and scored a pair of 9.700's. Kami Zarlengo finished with a 9.600 on bars to help guide TWU to a 48.225.

Following the conclusion of the meet, Hernandez was chosen as the TWU Gymnast of the Meet, as OU honors a Gymnast of the Meet from all competing teams.

Oklahoma claimed the win at home with a 198.450, BYU took second with a 196.2500 and Utah State finished with a 195.000.

"Tonight was a great atmosphere to compete in," TWU Head Coach Lisa Bowerman said. "We are continuing to grow and build every meet. We are excited to be back at home in KMA on Monday, Feb. 19 for an exciting quad meet. We look forward to our next opportunity to compete, and we cannot wait to see everyone pack KMA!"

TWU will be back in action on Monday, Feb. 19 at home in Kitty Magee Arena, as they host their first home quad meet of the season featuring Arkansas, Arizona and Alabama. The meet is slated to begin at 2 p.m. In partnership with the TWU CARE Office, if you bring a donation to Monday's meet, you will receive free admission into the meet.
