Box Score TYLER, Texas (March 12, 2024) - No. 5 UT Tyler got off to a quick start in the lone game of the Lone Star conference series between UTT and TWU, and took the victory against the Texas Woman's softball team on Tuesday night.
Despite recording six hits, the Pioneers fell short to the Patriots, who had 11 hits, with a final 6-2.
TWU's (14-14, 12-7) runs came in the second and sixth innings of the game, meanwhile, UTT (20-5, 12-4) got off to a quick start and scored five runs off nine hits in their first three opportunities at bat.
In the top of the second, Elizabeth Smith reached first base on an error by the Patriot's first base. Quickly after that, Madison Altman hit a double down the left line and recorded her first RBI of the season as Smith scored the first run for the Pioneers.
The Patriots added one run in the first inning, three in the second and and one more in the bottom of the third inning.
After UTT scored their last run of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Pioneers had another great play that earned them their second run.
In the top of the sixth, Alyssa LeBlanc doubled to right center, just before Tylar Lane picked up her first RBI of the season. Lane hit another double to left center and allowed LeBlanc to score their second and final run of the game.
LeBlanc led the Pioneers in hits with two and Lane, Hawwa Townsend, Delaney Boley and Altman had one each for the six total they earned in seven trips to the plate.
Even though LeBlanc (7-6) took the loss, she collected four strikeouts that came in the bottom of the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings. The Patriot's pitcher Kaylee Davis, who took the win, was only able to record one of the 24 Pioneers at bat.
Texas Woman's and UT Tyler will finish the series tomorrow afternoon with a doubleheader scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
