DENTON, Texas (July 8, 2024) – The Texas Woman's soccer team strives to pick up where they left off after a strong 2023 season, where the Pioneers reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2019, as the Pioneers announced their 2024 regular season schedule.
"We're excited about the upcoming season," Head Coach Babak Abouzar said. "Our non-conference schedule pits us up against some familiar opponents, who we know quite well, which in turn means they know us very well too. We're excited about the challenge this brings to get us ready for the ultra-competitive LSC."
The Pioneers will begin the season on the pitch at Pioneer Soccer Park against East Central on Thursday, Sept. 5 at 7 p.m. TWU is 9-5-1 all-time versus the Tigers and looks to start the season in the win column after leading off with a program best 5-0 start last season. The Pioneers then hit the road for two consecutive away games against Missouri Southern State and Southern Nazarene on Sept. 8 and 11.
On Sept. 18, the Pioneers will honor and celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month on their return home, where they will face Harding at 5 p.m.
TWU then moves on to two straight away trips for a non-conference match against Ouachita Baptist on Saturday, Sept. 21, and a conference opener with Angelo St. TWU tied with the OBU Tigers and fell last year to Angelo St. to wrap up the 2023 regular season.
The Pioneers then return home for a meeting with conference opponent Midwestern State on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. This day also marks Faculty and Staff Appreciation at Pioneer Soccer Park, as the Pioneers will welcome and honor TWU faculty and staff members on the field before the game.
Coach Abouzar and the soccer squad head to Austin, Texas, on Saturday, Oct. 5, to continue conference play and face off against the St. Edward's Hilltoppers and then Oklahoma Christian on Wednesday, Oct. 9, in Oklahoma City.
In their return to Pioneer Soccer Park, TWU takes on LSC opponent Texas A&M International on Saturday, Oct. 12, against the Dustdevils at 7 p.m., where the Pioneers will honor Breast Cancer Awareness. They will face the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m.
TWU continues LSC action on the road on Saturday, Oct. 19, versus St. Mary's at 1 p.m. and Dallas Baptist on Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m. The Pioneers will look to be victorious in these two matchups after tying with both teams in their 2023 campaign.
The next conference match for TWU versus UTPB on Saturday, Oct. 26, will mark Senior Day, as the Pioneers will honor their nine seniors - Amanda Farris, Sydney Kurtz, Kaylee Smith, Abby Powers, Dylann Vollaro, Sierra McCormick, Hayley Masoner, Alyssa Valdez, Rayne Islas.
The Pioneers then go on the road to take on newly joined Lone Star Conference opponent Sul Ross State in Alpine, Texas, on Oct. 29 at noon.
TWU will close the regular season with two straight home games and a road matchup in Lubbock, Texas.
On Friday, Nov. 1, the Pioneers host West Texas A&M and then UT Tyler on the following Monday, Nov. 4, for the final home game of the season. TWU defeated the Lady Buffs in their last matchup, 1-0, and tied with the Patriots last season, leading the all-time series 3-0-2.
Finally, on Friday, Nov. 7, the Pioneers visit Lubbock Christian for their final regular season game at 3 p.m.
"Our team knows that every game in our conference is going to be a battle, and we're looking forward to embracing this challenge," Abouzar said.
The LSC Tournament First Round will kick off postseason play on Tuesday, Nov. 12.
