DENTON, Texas (Sept. 24, 2024) - For the second consecutive week, the Texas Woman's soccer team has been honored with a Lone Star Conference Player of the Week award, this time recognizing Giselle Gutierrez as the LSC Offensive Player of the Week.

"Giselle has been putting in a lot of work after practice on her finishing in front of goal and it's great to see it paying off in critical games early in the season," Head Coach Babak Abouzar said. "I look forward to seeing her attacking presence on the field continue to grow as we head into conference play."

Gutierrez received the Offensive Player of the Week award for the first time in her career. She led the Pioneers offensively, scoring two goals this past week, which improved the Pioneer record to 4-1. The wins over Harding University and Ouachita Baptist marked the fourth win in a row for TWU after dropping the season opener.

The sophomore scored a goal in each game, including the only score in a win over Harding. Gutierrez also scored the first goal in a 2-1 match against Ouachita Baptist. She attempted six shots, with three on goal, in 158 minutes total to score the two goals for the Pioneers.

Gutierrez joins Brelove, who was named LSC Defensive Player of the Week after her performances against MSSU and SNU in week two. Gutierrez was crucial for the Pioneers in the two victories, as she scored the game winning goal against the Bisons and got the offense going early against the Ouachita Baptist Tigers.

The Pioneers will aim to rely on their attackers and minimize their opponent's scoring chances as they begin conference play this weekend against Angelo State.
