PIONEERS MEET LCU IN REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

DENTON, Texas (March 17, 2025) – The No. 1 Texas Woman's basketball team will meet the No. 2 seed Lubbock Christian on Monday night in the 2025 NCAA South Central Regional Championship.

TWU (33-1) will meet LCU (31-4) on St. Patrick's Day at 7 p.m. in Kitty Magee Arena. It will mark the third meeting this season between the two teams and second in postseason action.

Tonight marks the second straight year the Pioneers will be playing in the Sweet Sixteen. The winner of tonight's game will advance to the 2025 NCAA Elite Eight Tournament in Pittsburgh, Pa. 

PACK KMA CHAMPIONSHIP MONDAY
  • LAST MEETING: The Pioneers already met LCU in one post season championship, as they defeated the Lady Chaps, 73-66, on Sunday, March 9 in overtime to claim the Lone Star Conference Tournament Title for the second straight season. In the game, the largest lead was five points by the Lady Chaps in regulation. As they have done all season, TWU stayed composed on defense to limit the scoring of the Lady Chaps. The Pioneers committed just nine fouls in the win. TWU also forced the Lady Chaps to turn the ball over 16 times for 21 TWU points. The Pioneers only turned the ball over nine times for just four Lady Chaps' points. TWU stayed composed for the entirety of the game to force overtime and hold LCU to just three points in the extra period. Ashley Ingram led the way for TWU with 28 points, and Scout Huffman scored 21 points. Maci Maddox led LCU with 26 points, and Grace Foster had 19 points. TWU shot 45.9% from the field, and LCU shot 46.6% from the field.
  • DEFENSE IS KEY: In the win at the LSC Championships, the Pioneers forced the Lady Chaps to turn the ball over 16 times for 21 TWU points. Throughout the NCAA South Central Regional Tournament, TWU has won the two previous games both by 23-points. They have held their opponents to 33% from the field and just 50 points per game. Additionally, they have held their opponents to just eight three pointers. TWU has dished out 29 total assists, while their opponents have recorded just nine total. Locking down on the defensive end will be key for TWU on Monday night.
  • BEST BENCH: The Pioneers' bench has averaged 33.5 points per game in the NCAA Tournament, while the LCU bench has averaged just 7.5 points per game. TWU's most minutes across the tournament has been Ashley Ingram, who averaged 27.2 minutes per game. The Pioneers' starting five as a whole averaged just 24.4 minutes per game. On the other side, LCU's starting five averaged 34.36 minutes. Minutes played and depth will play a factor in the game on Monday night.
